What can you buy for $2500 anywhere that's decent? Buy it, put it in a barn for 25 years and you'll do well.
For a track car, parts car or something to screw around with it may be a decent starting point. If you're looking to fix and sell for a profit, forget it.
I recall - admittedly 40 years ago - passing up a white Vette because I knew the guy had beat on it, plus the thing needed paint, it was just tired. A white 58. With 2-4's. For $800.

I, too, have seen worse for more money. The classic ad for me are the ones that I have seen that say something like, "C4 Corvette, needs paint and interior work, no engine or trans - $2000."
