Default LT1 vs LT4 issues

I am still hunting for my C4. Recently found a 96 with the LT4, mileage in the mid 50s. Are these engines prone to any specific issues? Is there something I should be looking for specific to these LT4s. I have only looked at LT1s, so far and will be test driving this LT4 this weekend.
Thanks in advance.

Not really, in fact they are a much improved LT1, best of the breed.

Might be more technical info than what you are asking for but the specifications are reliable and summarized pretty well. LT4 received more durable engine components over the LT1. I had a ’93 and a ’94 LT1 prior to my ’96 LT4, never had an issue with either of the LT1 engines other than a intake manifold gasket leak that was fixed under GM warranty on the ’94. The LT1 is a great motor. My ’96 has 54,500 miles on it and it has been bullet proof; ’96s are the best assembled C4s, hand down.

30 more ponies then the LT1 too, although some would argue (and various dyno slips over the years) would seem to indicate that you get a little more then stated values.

The only concern I would have though is that there was an early recall done on LT4, chances are it was done, but something to check into. I believe an GM dealer can tell you if the recall was done or check this link to see if the car you are looking at qualifies
