Rear view mirror with compass!
After many months of trial and error, and lots of bad ebay purchases, I've come up with a plug-and-play option for a rear view mirror with a compass, with the correct display color to match the 89-96 C4 dash illumination. The mirror also retains the map lights, and the courtesy light function of the map lights when the door opens. I also added an orange LED for the ambient light on the console, just like the stock mirror. Mirror also has electrochromic auto-dimming.
I have also developed a plug-and-play harness, to adapt the mirror right into the stock C4 wiring, without the end user needing to cut a single wire.
It's hard to capture the ambient orange LED lighting of the console, but here's a glimpse of it (my white shift **** accentuates it a bit):
Video Demo:
Cost will be $224 plus $15 for priority mail shipping. This price includes the mirror, harness, mounting screw, and adapter. PM for payment instructions.
Updated 1/12/14:
Currently working on prototype for the same mirror as above but with an outside temperature display. This would be useful for C4s that don't have the automatic/digital climate control system and therefore lack the outside temperature display in the dash. Anticipated cost will be Approximately $100 more than the compass-only version.

I feel your pain, David!
Also, note that you'll either need to use a glue-on button on your windshield to use this mirror, OR, await my upcoming adapter that will allow mounting to the windshield header like the stock mirror. No ETA on that adapter, but I'm hoping for availability in the next 4-6 weeks.
If I can find more mirrors to convert, I'm planning on selling them for $149, that will include plug&play wiring harness, and free shipping.

I'm not sure about the pre-90 cars. I have lamps and wiring from an earlier C4 here, but I'm not sure what year it is from exactly. It has only one 3-wire plug, instead of the 3-wire and 2-wire plugs from the later cars.
I'd need to see what kind of wiring you guys have to start with, before knowing if it's a plug and play affair.
This early C4 mirror I have here, as far as I can tell, doesn't operate the map lights as courtesy lamps when the doors are opened. SO, that function would not operate, but I could certainly set up a mirror that would utilize whatever wiring you do have present.

Sweet, you'd need a homelink-equipped mirror to do that.
It so happens that I have one of those if you're interested, orange/amber display, 3 homelink buttons, but no map lights.

Jeez Sweetsie, I was excited about the auto dim and maybe the compass/map light. Tired of getting my eyes fried out by some a**hole in a pickup about 4" off my tail. Nice touch to match the orange for later years, I dont see any need to change it for the Atari dash cars.

How about one that calls ahead to my blender to have a margarita ready when I pull in the drive??
