C4 corvette Cold Air Intake Question???
Hey guys. I've had a cold air intake on all my previous cars. I don't do it for the minimal gains. I do it for the epic whistling sucking sound it makes. My question for you guys is:
I really don't feel like spending $250+ on a cold air setup just to get the sound I want. I was wondering if I just got the 'Power Coupler' (both sections) if I would get the sound Im looking for. I feel like that is actually where the noise comes from. Thats why all intakes from the factory are ribbed, to reduce the noise.
Any thoughts?

agree.
Power couplers will do nothing soundwise. And just so you know, that "woosh" sound that comes when engine is suckin air, will appear only when you have some kind of restriction in your air intake. ie I get that "woosh" sound at idle with my stock LT4 TB, but when I switch to my ported&polished 58mm bbk, there comes no sounds from the filter.

and if you want ram air, just do it yourself.
One of these days I'll take an updated picture with it properly boxed in so air doesn't fill up in the bumper.
Been lazy here too. Will cut out the cross support and frame in the air cleaner lid so it'll seal when the hood is shut.

A "smooth tube" wbile still somewhat flexible, will likely force the air filter housing to move back and forth some. Factory ribbing is not for sound attenuation.

I installed the clear Vortex Ram Air system on my '96. I like it.
