Holy Seat Swap, Batman!
I switched my driver and passenger seat today.
I found $4.31 in change, a butane lighter on the driver's side (meaning my dealer lied about the car being traded by a non-smoker) two pens, a blue plastic cap to something or other, three old trim screws, an old parking stub, several dead french fries, and a yellow piece of paper with a phone number on it (should I?).
Anyway, the passenger's seat is so un-used and un-collapsed that I am having serious headroom problems now! But the swap was easy. I have the power standard seats (no bladders) on both sides, and all I needed for the swap was a 13mm wrench and a thin screwdriver blade to pop the electrical connector.
Also, the passenger's seat back-angle-adjuster switch works, so I'm not all the way back in F-16 position now. Much more comfortable driving position.
The seats aren't 100% compatible, because of that front switch. Now, both switches are next to the transmission tunnel. But I have renewed confidence in the tossability of the car with the new, stiff and unbroken seat.
I'd say that even if you folks just buy a new base seat cushion, you'll be amazed at the difference in driving position.

To solve the headroom issues, romove the straps from the bottom of the seat. It gave me about 2". Did you eat the fries? :U

Did not eat the fries, although they were amazingly well-preserved. McDonalds knows the secret of the Eternal Fry. The lighter still works. Fire is cool, huh, huh...
I wil try removing the straps in the morning. Thanks.

I don't smoke, but I carry a lighter. Comes in handy for burning hanging strings and such. Burn them and they are less likely to come undone than pulling them! Plus my wife smokes. Just not in the cars!

ummmm....wouldn't it have just been "easier" to swap the bottom cushons? (unless the back and side bolsters are wearin' too.)

I have the base seats in my 91, and switched the lower cushions only. Took a whoping 2 minuts for both sides. I love the way those things, can "Slide out" of the hold down clips...

Two things -
The bottom cushion wasn't worn at all. The side bolster is worn through.
The driver's seat rack is broken. The gears just spin and make a "BRRRRR!" noise unless I also push back or pull forward on the seat. Also, the driver's seatback angle adjust was broken.
Yes, I know I can buy a rebuilt rack. I am putting all of my money right now into paying off the note by August. Then I can start saving for the restoration parts.
So I put the old, broken seat on the passenger side, and gave myself the working seat.
Also got all that change and vacuumed the carpet out really well. And learned how to get the seats out if i ever need a lot of room to work on the IP, or lay new carpet...great experience.

On my base seats, there is a little strap, on the bottom of the cushion in the front, its more like a hold down. When you pull the clip, you can raise the cushion from the rear, and its out....
It might be possible to thin out the lower seat cushion for some more room,
