Best site to buy headlight motors?
Hey guys, at the stealership they were wanting to charge me $574 for a new headlight motor on my 86. That was not including labor. I can do it myself, but need to know the best website to get the motor from. Where have you guys bought yours when they have gone bad?
Thanks in advance!

Do not Buy a motor. All you probably need is three bushings. The bushings are cheap and it is a fairly easy repair. There is a very good article on how to do the repair as a sticky. As I recall, your year takes two gears, so do not get confused if they talk about one gear, as that is the later model.
I have a ’95 and bought a brass bushing replacement, but all it needed was bushings. The first clue is if it clack- clack- clack- clacks when it is going up or down at the end of its travel. It will take about an hour to fix if you have everything ready.

I had mine fixed in like 15 min. Excluding a hr dry time on gorilla glue. Some dummy put 3 nuts instead of new bushings. So it cracked the gear so I gorilla glued it and it works great.

Have a nice flat space on your work bench covered with something soft that will not scratch your paint. When I took mine off it suddenly dawned on me that the paint would be facing down while you work on the motor. It was not my only project

'86 does not have the bushings. Those didn't come until '88.
I suggest taking it apart before buying any parts. What I've seen is that the metal worm gear chews up the plastic gear. This apparently happens when the headlight slams up against the stops when it opens and closes.
I've been through two of the plastic gears on my left headlight. The right one is still fine after 26 years. Now I keep a spare:
There is a bronze gear available that supposedly cures this problem forever.
