Thinking about parting ways with the vette
Ok in the past week I had to put on new brake pads, rotors and calipers. As soon as I finished that I realized I needed a new clutch master cylinder. On top of that I have no radio and no windsheild wipers. I absolutly love my corvette, but I dont know if I can keep spending hundreds to thousands of dollars fixing an 10 year old car with over 100k miles on it. At some point you have to cut your losses and I feel I am getting close.
Now for the bad news I am looking at a new S2000. Do you guys have any experiece w/ these. Say w/ performance (I know it wont be like my vette but it should still be quick) or anything else. And no I will not become a ricer if I do it.

The S2000 Stickers around 32k and the C5's are in the mid to upper 40's so there is a huge difference in price. After the problems this car had I am looking for a new car, not a used one.

I think you make a valid arguement...
and at one time, before getting my Vette, considered an S2000... except, at 5'11" and 250lbs, I don't fit to damned good. :D
However... the S2000 will not have the shear power, but will have refinement. and the car, if new, will have a warranty...
Corvettes are not cheap... the downside is, to be blunt, they are made by GM. GM keeps cutting costs by strong arming suppliers. Suppliers cut costs, and the quality drops. We pay the price. in repair after repair.
GM needs to take some lessons from Toyota and Honda. Character is one thing, poor built quality is another.
If my car was not a Corvette, I would not have it today. Thats for sure.

sorry to hear of your troubles, all I've had to replace was a heater core ($30) and a new battery (like $70). S2000s are pretty cool

For 32 large you can get this
or this http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=94429006&dealer_id= &certified=
n&max_price=34000&start_year=2000&
end_year=2003&address=44102&search
_type=used&make=CHEV&model=CORV&
min_price=20000&distance=200&advcd_
on=n&advanced=n&color=&car_year=2000
&ac_afflt=none
I hear you on the repairs on your Vette,
but I'll take a slighty used C5 over a Honda any day of the week.

The S2000 sucks. Sorry.
Now that you've fixed the Vette, you want to sell it? All that stuff is replaced. go start driving it.

Patrick, the problem is I have not fixed it all yet. I still have to do the master cylinder, the wiper motor and the radio. I still have hundreds if not thousands of dollars in repairs to go. Damn, if they were all fixed I would be happy as a clam and not be complaining.

Fixing it is a great feeling.
I just finally fixed my reverse lights.
:yesnod:
I'm in it pretty deep now, but the sense of completion
can not be beat.

I guess I can't blame you for considering getting rid of the 'vette. There comes a point of diminishing returns when repairs start mounting and getting rid of it is a logical (and mature) decision to make. C4's, let's face it, are a dime a dozen and something you can pick up another time if the spirit moves ya. I would get rid of mine in a heartbeat if the repairs (added to purchase price) approached surmounting it's value. Of course, I'd be moving into a C5 at that point. ;)

Re: Thinking about parting ways with the vette (Mairi)
Scott, the S2000 is well respected and high quality. But....
The biggest issue, commented on by many, is the difference in having to wind up the engine so far to get any power and responsivness. It is a big leap, and people used to performance cars (other than F1 racers!) often have discomfort with the "character" of the engine.
Personally, I'd get a used C5.
But the 2000 is cool... if you are comfortable with the sizable adjustment in your driving style. I'd try to get one for at least a couple hours test drive, or over a weekend.
Regards,

My '93 is a 38,000 mile example and I just threw $3000 into last week.
Both cars are now in primo condition and for both cars(including the purchase price) I'm still below what a Z06 would cost and I'm having twice the fun.
Why spend all that money and sell so someone else can enjoy the car?
Keep it and fix what needs fixing, you'll enjoy a longer healthier life :cheers:

While the S2000 is nice,there is one thing that you will NOT be able to
get used to after driving the corvette-no torque!
I would look into a used C5 with a warranty.The S2000 is a novelty car.

Re: Thinking about parting ways with the vette (01GT)
I feel the same way you do. I love my car, but as someone stated earlier, if it wasn't a Corvette, It'd be gone... I have a large to-do list (which gets longer each month) that includes: master and slave cylinder, driveshaft u-joints, wheel bearings, front and rear suspension bushings, power steering rack and pump, all brake rotors and pads, rear main seal, etc. I feel your pain!! BUT, as said before, everything that gets fixed just makes the car better, and I am not spending anywhere near what a new car, of this cailber, would cost each month (I averaged about $225 a month last year on repairs). I have resolved myself to keeping this car until it costs me more than a comparable new car (read new Corvette :p: ).

Re: Thinking about parting ways with the vette (MBVette)
If you want to stay in a vert and definately want to buy new, the 32k sticker on the s2000 can't be beat. I am sure it is a fun car and is not likely to have any problems. I often wonder what I would do with all the extra money I would have if I wasn't constantly pouring it into the vette :D You probably won't get much support on here for buying a honda but if you are fed up, go for it. :cheers:
