checking out a 94 LT1 6 speed
Hello I have an 80 model all stock auto now. I seen a 94 for sale 37k miles. I looked it over today. Seems clean, Dark red metalic. interior is beige and black dash. Bose system, electronic ride control I think(tour-something-performance) Power seats both sides.I like it because it has 300 hp and a 6 speed. I realy like the seats and interior. Seems to sit a little lower than my C3. I will go drive it on Monday Any thing I need to look out for? found a note in owners manual about clutch slave replaced in 6 of 09, clutch seems firm. Also a note that the fan is rewired to run all the time, to keep it cool ? Why ? I am very tempted to trade If I like it. I have heard how great they handle and ride compaired to a C3. I cant wait till Monday. Thanks in advance. Steve.

Most likely to keep it cool all the time. and the LT4 has 330 ponies. You won't go wrong with a LT4. Good luck
Here, this should keep you busy for a while. read up

I think its an LT1. I don`t know much about the C4 generation cars ! I need to know where the problem areas are in a 94,that I can look for. It has sat for a while. It was bought by this small town dealer at an estate sale. 37,000 miles, very clean, looks all original. No hacking to the wiring, under the hood looks good except some rust on the balancer pully from sitting, I would guess. Please advice me on this 94 6 speed. The internet says look for these areas- door panels, power brake booster, heater core & heater blend control, Opti-spark(moisture) ? Thanks

That's a good year- I think the later opti-sparks are all vented and don't tend to fail prematurely. The clutch slave is a good thing, the oem ones will fail when they are 15 years old- that's just a standard item for C4's.
The problem areas are the suspension and stereo systems. The rear susp is like C3's where the half shafts take a beating because the are a link in the geometry and support the hub movement. u-joints and diff side play are items to check.
excessive corrosion under the battery is a good C4 item to look at. even the cleanest cars have a touch of it.
lowered cars, bad shocks (esp FX3 shocks), missing orig hard top, and crapped-out Bose radios and amps are hidden costs that will cost more than you think. Other than that, mileage, one or two owners, and general condition apply as with all cars.

Thanks Mike ! It has the sport seats too. I have read about the bose systems being fail prone also. I will check under the battery, Thanks. I spent quiet a bit rebiulding my trailing arms. This car does have the electronic ride control. Is this a reliable system ? The shocks say " delco- Bilstein. They are yellow. Thanks.

If it is a 94 it is an LT1. C4s are designed to run hot, 200-230 range. You can find hundreds of threads here debating the merits of that, it is not at all uncommon to find that someone has wired the fans to come on earlier or all the time. Not something to be concerned about (check the front of the radiator though, a lot of trash can collect there over time).
The selective ride feature is a great concept, but be prepared for a very big bill if/when the shocks need to be replaced.
I think you will be very pleased with the LT1s power.

Thanks Mark, What cylinder head does the LT1 use ? and what is a j55 option ? I have seen " j55 equipted " Yes I will most likely like the motor, when I am used to an L48 190 HP quadrajet.

The J55 is the ZR-1 large diameter front rotor size. It became standard in 95,96. The FX3 is kind of cool if it is working still. The shocks can be rebuilt at Bilstein for $100 ea, which isn't too bad, but if the actuators are all broken also, forget about it- just put the whole mess in a box for later and buy regular shocks).
I had the ones on my ZR-1 revalved a little stiffer- it's kind of handy to be able to swith from med to hard settings-the soft is too soft- it bottoms out.
sport seats are one of the best vette seats ever. sounds like a highly optioned car- I would be inclined to get it due to three things:
6 spd
late model interior style (94-96) + highly optioned
low mileage
If the car has been dormant and not driven, expect some issues- set aside a few hundred bucks for those in evitable repairs. radiator, water pump, starter- nickel and dime stuff may be on the way out due to age (not mileage) and lack of daily useage.

Hello I just bought a 94 auto with z07 package 38,000 miles coupe from Naperville Il. and drove it home to Ms. The only problem was a rough ride. Other than that the car drove great.

I've got a 94 6-speed too, bought it 5 years ago with 38k miles. Was going to upgrade to J55 brakes, but once I put on stainless steel lines, Hawk HPS pads, and flushed the fluid, the brakes have been fine. I had a slight water pump leak a year after I bought it, so replaced the pump right away before it could get the Opti wet. 94's are not vented Opti's. Replaced the Bilsteins and got the ride back to like-new. The only other thing I've done is replace the injectors with Bosch Gen 3's from FIC, and it made the engine noticeably smoother running. Previous owner had done the 1-4 shift eliminator. Stock other than that.
Mine's dark red metallic too (absolute best color for a Vette, in my totally unbiased opinion), although I have black interior. Sport seats are awesome. My wife loves riding in the Vette because she has back problems and the inflatable seat bolsters give her a custom fit for support.
Great car. I'd say go for it!

Sounds like a nice ride fixing the fan should be easy.
Long as it isnt covering up a bad head gasket you should be fine.
Bet the owner was watching the analog gauges which fool you they will ready very hot when they arent.
LT1 uses its own dedicated head not interchangeable with Gen 1s.
They outflow the old came humps by a fair amount and have potential for more if you work them over.
it will outrun an old school 300 hp 350 with ease if that helps.

Thanks to all, so far. It rained today. Looks like Tuesday will be partly sunny, and almost 70. I talked with the dealer, told him I`d be back tommorow. I have my fingers crossed that all this cars bells and whistles are working as designed.

85 Z-51 is essentially the base 84.... The 84, on stock tires and suspension but using non stock alignment generated over 1g lateral force years before any other car-and yes, bumpy roads will loosen your fillings lol

My test drive did not go well. The engine has a dead cylinder ? The car rides nice, and all electrical items seem in order. The dealer is going to have his guy look it over and try to get the miss out. Then he will call me. I think it would outrun my L48 auto, running on 7 cylinders.

Here's some more info in case there's anything else you missed - hope they get the miss sorted out!
