Any thoughts on best model year 84-89?
Hey all, I'm looking to buy somewhere in the 1984-1989 model year range? Was just wondering if anyone had any insights into the best model year(s) to own in that series? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. I'm getting very excited to purchase one soon from those years! Gotta have that digital dash... :-)

I have an '86 so i'm biased.... get the '89, or a '96 if funds allow.

I have an 88 so this is no biggie to me. But the 84 my be the lowest hp of all the c4 but the crossfire was probley the most relible and easiest of the c4 to repair. Old cast iron heads seldom gave you any problem and for the most part same botton end that had been proven for years. A lot of 84 knockers but you cannot denie the reliailty of these cars

Most people on here will tell you newer is always better.
Between the years you have selected, most people will always tell you to stay away from 84's, because of the crossfire, lower horse power, etc.
I'd say if to get an 89 because it's newer, but if the car hasn't been taken care of than that obviously does not matter.
If you're looking at C4's that are all generally in good condition, and you don't care about having a 6 speed (1989's) I'd say to get the best deal you can find between and 85-89.

Came out on 82's, basic TBI with longer runners. TBI used through the 80's on trucks and vans-good torque. Untrained mechanics caused problems. Majority of CFI's on this forum run just fine. No shortage of "experts" and rumours...

imo TBI is a hell of a lot simpler and reliable than TPI period.
Those that say its problem prone have no clue at all.
