A new appreciation for this place
Coming up on 2 weeks since I retired, and I've finally dove into a '66 Chevy truck which has sat in my garage for over 20 years. It's a POS now but after a lot of work and more money than it will ever bring, it will be nice.
I joined a forum to get help on issues for that restoration and I've got to say I'm quite disappointed. One post is 2 days old, no replies (a simple question about what vendor I should buy certain parts from). Another question is 5 days old and drew 1 reply. That reply did answer most of my question but did not generate any discussion, interest or even sarcasm.
My point is we may get irritated at n00bs asking old questions, we may yank chains about dogs, cats and rats, we may even bellyache about locked threads, but overall this forum is WAY more helpful and friendly than what I see over there. Kind of like a family here, we fuss, fight and have strange uncles, but when someone has a question or problem ultimately, if they have a thick skin, they'll get answers and help far beyond what is sometimes found elsewhere.

I am on all kinds of forums more than corvettes and most are slower than here, but not all.
Kind of like the vette sites there are a few of them and I belong to most, but this one is the busiest. It's the same with hotrod forums and mopar forums etc. Look around and try other forums you'll find one that is active and helpful.

On a side note, if your looking for resto parts for the '66, LMC truck parts is a good source.

Thanks on the wishes - it's an adjustment, but one I think I'm making OK.
96VetteCE, thanks - LMC was one of the vendors I had asked about on the other forum. If they seem to have a good reputation I'll give them a try. (See, got more truck advice on THIS forum than on the truck forum)
For those interested in the truck, it's the first truck I ever owned, bought it sight unseen (except for a slide on a screen) at an auction for $50 back in March 1982. Chain towed it home over 100 miles, got it running and drove it for 8 years for a side job. Parked it in 1990 and it has sat ever since.
It's a '66, 3/4 ton, and has a utility body. It was originally a railroad truck from New Jersey and has about 246,000 miles as near as I can tell. Original 283/175 hp 2 barrel. Was a 3 on the tree and now has a floor shifter. It's spent its whole life in Yankee salt so you can imagine the condition. (Actually 20 of its 45 years were in my garage so that's not too bad). I'm not making a competition show truck out of it, but I am going to take it down to the frame and do at least a halfazzed restoration on it just for the heck of it. Can't bring myself to part with it, but until THIS one gets mostly done the wife would not be happy if I added a C-1 or C-2 to the collection. (oops - no, dear, NO plans to get ANOTHER Vette, just kidding if you read this! )
First shot was before I did anything, covered with stuff in the garage, son's race car still on the other half of the garage (and it's STILL there)
And as of this afternoon:
And just like some folks here who buy an old C-4, I KNOW I will have more into it than I'll ever sell it for but it's the fun of doing the almost impossible that makes it worthwhile.

Thanks Sabre - it's a '66 Chevy truck I'm working on, not a '66 Vette. 2 pics above, post #12. At the moment I'm in the "take-it-apart" stage so lots of PB Blaster, skinned knuckles, rust chips all over everything, etc! But it's fun.
Funny the little adjustments retirement brings. Looked at the 7-day forecast, and paused to think when I work next to see what the weather would be. Whoops - don't have to worry about that any more. And because I worked an hour away from home, I catch myself looking at the truck's gas gauge to see if I'm going to need more before I go to work. A nice change to see how long a tank lasts now!
