Default (I Finally Raced Him) Stock 91 6-spd Vette Vs 95 Z28 (Kinda Long)

Hey Guys I asked you before who did you guys think would win in a race between my Stock L98 91 6spd Corvette vs 95 Camaro LT1 Z28 auto , w/ Long Tube headers, 3' exhaust (No Cat), 3.73's, CAI, TB bypass, Taylor Wires..... and probably other tiny things i forgot....
this is what happened.... (Friendly Race, hes my best friend)

We got to the light, Agreed nothing stupid... So waiting at the Red and we cant see when its gonna turn green... so niether of us have a clue when we are about to go... Light turns green... We reacted the same... he spun... i spun tiny bit (pretty nice launch) I pull a full car... then another half of car.... stop pullin at 40, 1 & 1/2 cars ahead... he starts pulling... he gets door to door with me at bout 65.... he ended up 2-3 car lengths infront of me and we cut it off at like 90-95 mph (ran out of room)... I was pretty happy... He ran a 13.2 yesterday at ATCO... So im pretty happy... I thought he was gonna smoke me... What do you guys think?

I asked the Guys in the TECH/PERF section about this race... but i though the Moderators would get mad if i put this reply there... If not... could you move it there? Thanks

You did good. The L98 is a monster off the line, but loses wind at 4500 or so. You can do a few mods to level the playing field though :reddevil

Hey Guys get this.... My dadd asked me about the race... haha i guess he just figured it happened... hes cool like that but we have like a deal nothin stupid, be careful and the normal stuff... he figures im gonna do it... at least do it right and dont get killed or kill some1 esle.. OK well that said.... We go outside to look at my car, hes like i def think this car should win..... We put the hood we are talking and laughing just messing around and i asked him if a throttle position senor makes any difference and hes like... maybe i dont kno.. and moves the throttle... turns out... it was only opening like 85%... It was hitting the screw on the clamp holding the intake there... Moved that... Man i think this Z28 is done..... HAHA, he doesnt want to race me again though... But my Butt Dyno tells me.... Big Difference... he may still catch me... but maybe not till like 90-100.... Ill keep you guys updated

I think it is time to take it to Westhampton to get a baseline.

Sorry, but not if he ran a 13.2 at ATCO. You've got some work to do first.

Yea....13.2's a pretty stiff time for a stock vette to top. Think ya got some serious work to do.

Yea Vic... I think ill be there next Saturday. The Z28 is fast cool car... He doesnt want to race me again though... i just kinda want to see what a difference the throttle position made. Im havent done any free mods like Remove the frisbee either ... im gonna go completely stock to get the baseline.
Thats his car... hes a member of the site TreyZ28... but barely ever posts unless... im talkin about his car.

Sounds like a good example of the strengths and weaknesses of the L98 vs. the LT1. My L98 vs my friend's 95 LT1 resulted the same way. I would take him off the line (both autos) but he would soon gain on me and eventually pass. The faster we went the more he would gain. Gotta love the low end torque of the L98 though. Good race! Just be safe and careful. :)

i was imprerssed

my luanch sucked butt though
i was still in track mode with the mickey tompsons and vhf and stuff
unfortunatly i was on the highway with h rated tires :(

later that day i raced a work stang GT and he beat me off the line every time so bad it took me till 95mph to pass him- but after i hooked up- it was like he was standing still

he traped at 101-i trap at 106
and it would be me by a car lenth i think
thats how bad i launch on the street

on the track - my first two runs ever i cut a 2.1 w/ 1 sec r/t 13.6 @104.7 and 2.0 with .7 r/t and 13.2 @~106

last run was .561 r/t and we won't get into the 60' :cry

sorry bout the rant- hes the whole not racing him gig

i only really race on this raod that is 1 mile long and a dead end- no intersections/ trees/ people/ cops.

kev doesn't want to race there
(thats where i raced the stang)
i'm really trying to avoid street racing because i love my lisence and my relativly low insurance rate and my clean record and car and life and airbags in the steering wheel and the list goes on adn on and on

i figured were going to the track this weekend  so why not hold our horses? i can use my MT sprotmans there too :reddevil

all in all- i'm impressed with the vette
but hehe i still spent $4k less than you    :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

:seeya <--- at the track :smash:

I can't believe the Camaro's only running 13.2's with the stuff you listed. Heck, stock Camaro's run 13.8's. Maybe he needs to do some reprogramming? That or get some practice launching.

Anyway, nice...glad you didn't get embarrassed too much. :chevy

gimme a break! it was my 2nd run EVER and i jsut got new gears adn tires and i never even steet launched - and i cut a 2.0 60' - now i just need to take off the sway bar :)

kev- i've told u this 100x mickey is a part of the championship team
telling me mickey has to be benched because launching on my poopiety tires in the street is my weak point is like telling the early 90's bulls they have to bench jordan and bring in the waterboy

I just want to see motor to motor... i dont want it to come down to traction... See what would happen on a daily basis. You never drive on them on the street. I want to see how I would do for a street race.

I just took out a new SS today that still had dealer plates on it. Took him clean from the light to 90 MPH and then let off. Oh well, another F Body for the old scorecard... :D
