Wow I must be an idiot
I've had my 86 coupe for almost 2 years now and in order to open the rear hatch, I have always had to open the gas cap cover and pry the glass open with a couple fingers. It would stay up when I got it open so I guess I never gave it much thought. A couple days ago it would no longer stay up so I replaced one of the struts and I was shocked.
Amazing!

most and I say most will admit some of the dumb stuff they have done when new to Corvettes, I have done some but then you have the few, the proud they will never admit it. So I myself have no room to flame (even though it does seem a little dumb of you) just kidding.

Safety Car
My idiot moment was after I bought the car. I had flown to Colorado and was waking up early to start my trip back to AL. I opened the hood to check the oil prior to leaving and everything was fine. Then I tried to close the hood. I tried for 30 minutes, including searching this site on my iphone trying to figure out how to shut the damn thing. Even the instructions seemed vague.
Finally I made it work. I think my problem was I wasn't pulling the hood down enough. I guess I was expecting the weight to make it fall. Lucky for me it was 3 or 4am and nobody was around to see me.

Not as much as those that had their cars towed because the E-brake was "jammed"

But, I figured that out. My OMG moment was when I pressed the door light a couple years after ownership...and discovered it turns on/off just by pressing the light itself!

That's funny. Back in 1999, it took a few days before I discovered the ebrake would lower while engaged. Kept thinking WTF did they block entrance space (to the seat) for!

I've been waiting to see a post from someone who "discovered" the hatch release switches on both doors.

No flame from me. Had my car for about six months and the first time it rained while I was out driving I had to pull over in a parking lot to figure out how to turn the wipers on. Man did I feel stupid and glad on one was with me.
