Default Where Can I purchase 255/50r16 tires

Hello Everyone I am new to this great Forum and I figured this would be a great place to ask for advice and help. OK my Question is I am in need of Four tires for my 86 The Tire size are as follows 255/50r16. I can not find them anywhere can anyone please point me in the right direction. Someone told me I can put 245/50r16 on the car as long as I would be replacing all four is that a possibility or is that completely not recomened.
Thank you in advance for your help.

255's are getting harder and harder to find. there is probably only a couple of manufacturers out there making that size. try the www.tirerack.com ,( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...ting=S&tab=All ) and search your application. with the 245 thing, as long as you replace all four corners. have you considered a 17" upgrade?

Yokohoma brand tires still make them in your size. They are only about $100.00 a tire. They are excellent long lasting tires too. Most tire shops can supply them if you ask.

I went through the same thing early this spring - not many suppliers, but found BF Goodrich has them so I picked up 4. Other option was to go to 17" and now I wish I had as there is a lot more selection. 16" will be harder and harder to find in the future.

Walmart carries 255-50-16 but they are not Z rated.

$109 each the last time I checked.

http://www.discounttiredirect.com

has Falken Ziex ZE-512 in 255/50ZR-16 size in stock at 2 of their 3 warehouses.

I tried looking at tire rack, walmart, and for yokohama, but did not find anything except ones that have been on back order for months.

I have a set of these Falken tires. My impression is they are not the most responsive tire, but they have worn well for about 25k miles and still have pretty good tread left. They even worked pretty well in light snow. Overall, they are not my first choice, but I would consider another set (especially with the limited selection available today)

I have a set of rims just like yours from a 1987 with Michelin Pilot P255/50 R16 99V's mounted on them. The rims are in very good condition and the tires have lots of life left in them. I can send you photos.

I bought Goodrich tires a couple of months ago. I couldn't find the tires at the big box places, I had to go to a local-owned shop. The dealer told me that when it's time to replace those, it will be cheaper to buy 17" rims and tires.

The thread is 2 years old. I'm betting he may have got some by now.

The concerns are still valid. I ran Michelins for many years but they stopped making the 16" size. When I looked into this a few years ago the only choices were BF Goodrich and Falken. I didn't like the Falkens, so Goodrich tires are on my car now.

I have the Falkens. Not many miles on them yet. I am not an aggressive driver, and they replaced 23 year old Yokohamas that were as hard as cement, so I cannot give much of a review. From a size perspective, they have a rounder sidewall profile and I wager that many 245s would have been just as wide at the footprint.

Cliff, how do you like the BF Goodrich g-Force Sport tires? I am considering buying a 1985 Corvette for 50% street / 50% road course use. It looks like the BFG is the only street tire still available that offers excellent grip. Any insight is appreciated.

They have almost 30,000 miles on them. I got them in 2009. Still a decent amount of tread left (not into the wear indicators yet). They are kinda hard now and don't have a lot of traction. I can easily break them loose with a little throttle. I'm pretty aggressive on the brakes and I go into antilock about once a week. This is a daily driver but only between 10 and 25 miles per day.
