Default 1994 convert with 70k which tires to buy?

I bought this 94 convert last season and have only driven it about 1000miles. It has Kumho p275 40 17 all around on 5 spoke collector edition type wheels. I live in new england and will be driving it in the spring, summer and fall. I don't drive it real aggressive and am looking for tire suggestions. I want something that will be quiet, look good and give a nice ride. I also need to buy tires for my 64 and am looking for suggestions for that as well. I last bought tires for it 21 years ago.

Thanks

You have to change the tires on your vehicle if it is 21 years old. They are dangerous to use. I bought goodyears on my 95 vert. I forgot the model of the tire but so far it is pretty good (quiet). A corvette is a sports car and as far as a nice ride it will be alot harder then a toyota.

If you don’t drive aggressive, then you want a tire with a high tread rating. A road tire with good rain capabilities is the directing your tire person will guide you. That will be a less aggressive tire, harder rubber and better price than the soft rubber aggressive tires.

If you establish that, then price and looks become the last two choices. That will guide you into a couple of brands and then personal choice of the options for selection.

Seven years is the magic number for the reliability of tires. This obviously varies depending on environmental conditions and driving style. Tires can look good for a long time. But it is under high speed driving and having the tire hearted up is when the older tires will show their age and come apart and that is the worst time for it to happen.

You might be able to get away driving around your neighborhood at 30 mph for 40 years.

As mentioned tires will "age out" so keep that in mind. I wouldnt spend a ton of money on rubber if you dont drive your cars a lot. Course thats up to you. If ya have money to burn, go get some BFGs or Michelins.

I run the Michelin Pilot Sports on mine, but like mentioned above, they are by no means the cheapest sets of rubber out there......but my car is built with high end parts in it, so tires are not something I stopped short on even though I drive it in good weather only, time permitting.......but the Michelins are very good tires as I recently replaced the Dunlops due to age.....the Michelins are superior in every way, in my opinion......if you plan to sell the car in the near future, I would not bother with Michelins however.

I put General UHP's on my 85. They're quiet, ride well, and stick pretty good.

Another vote for Michelin Pilot Sports here. They are superb tires. They grip like stink, they are quiet, and they last a long time. I've put over 40,000 miles on the set that's on my '94 ragtop, and they still have decent tread remaining. I put about the same amount of miles on the set that I just removed from my LT4 coupe, and I went with a fresh set of Pilot Sports.

If you plan to keep the car for a long time, go with the Pilot Sports. In the long run, the cost will be comparable to less expensive tires that don't last as long. If you plan to keep the car for only a short time, you'll be better off going with another set of Kumhos, or some other bargain-priced tire.

Live well,

SJW

I have the Kumho XS for my race tires and their fantastic but they would wear fast for everyday tires, too soft. Bty they were not bargain priced. BF Goodrich G force is a good medium priced street tire.

Michelin is not making Michelin Pilot Sports in size of original equipment for my 1994 Convertible. Any suggestions for replacement tires???

Thanks
