why do some people sell/tradein a c4, why not keep it
I've seen a couple posts here about people getting a newer, faster car than their stock c4.
My question is why? Why sell a garage queen mint cond c4 for peanuts?
If you have to trade it in to use that tiny amount of money as a down payment than you aren't in financially good enough shape to buy another car.
Even if you don't have the garage space, that doesn't mean you can't park it next to the garage in the lawn and throw a cover over it.
So if you are considering sellng your c4 I urge you to reconsider. Stop flooding the market with such a unique one of a kind sports car that will one day be in such high demand as a bird on the hood 78 transam 4 speed is now.
If its not fast enough then you aren't modding it appropriately. Aaron at aksracing 88 ran 10.5s (forced induction) on a stock bottom end. How many supercars are doing that?

Actually are alot of C4's beside (or behind) the garage with covers on. How many do you see driving down the road anymore (out of 1/3 of a million built)? As far as what it will be worth down the road, some C4's have already attained antique (25years) status. They are what they are, one of the best sports car values out there. People and things change, and you can't stop the march of time.

Why do people trade wives in for newer sportier models?
Maybe they arent hitting on all 8 any more?

Selling ones c4 to get a newer better model is a good thing. It will keep the demand up for production on the new models. Also that c4 you sell could introduce someone new to the corvette world. Then hopefully they in turn will want a new model one day and sell the c4.....and the cycle continues.

I'm keeping my C4, it's clean and fast , and when I retire 19 years later hopefully i can add a zr1 to the garage. New (2030) or old (2011) , it doesn't matter

I dont see the C4 as becoming a collector car any time soon. Many early ones are becoming High School kids Hot rods and will probably end up as parts cars or junk after they are beat to death. They cost to much to restore even if you are doing the work your self and unless you have some special edition you will never get your money back. Puting them under a car cover out side will do more harm then good in most cases as weather conditions affect cars under covers unless they are garaged. I have one sitting here a few blocks over that has been sitting outside for over 12 years.Believe me the rodents and weather have distroyed this car. When that cover is removed the owner will be in for a surprise. I am not sure why the C4 has such a poor resale market because it was one of the best Corvettes ever built . Seems to me the real collector Corvettes are still the C1, C2s and early C3.s. The econmony has not touched their resale value and You still have to be a millionare to have one of these toys.

I currently own (and drive) 6 Corvettes BUT when I retired I did sell my 95 Black on Black 6 speed Z51 car to purchase a new C5 (98) convertible AND NOT BLACK but also a Z51 6 speed car...
The C5 was just a gift to myself since I hated keeping the black 95 clean so why not.. ...
That said I did miss the "feel" of the C4 ...I like the feel sitting behind the wheel in the C4 better then I do in the C5 SO just last December purchased a 88 35th Anniv Coupe and I'm all smiles again...
BTW... When my wife and I got married we could NOT afford 2 cars... so we sold her 1955 Chevy Belair 2 door hardtop (for 200 bucks) and kept my 57 Ford...
Boy have I gotten smarter over the years...STUPID MOVE.... lol

I have considered selling my C4 lately. I haven't had it that long, and I love to tinker with it and keep it clean, but that's just it. The stable is over full as it is, so just another vehicle to maintain eats in to my time too much. I might throw a for sale sign on it at Carlisle this year.
I won't sell it though, it's mine

They are cheap toys, of course kids are going to buy them and tear them up. No collector car on the planet is going to be picked up for a few G or even 10g. Cost to get in that game starts a good deal higher.
If they were collector cars they wouldnt be affordable lol
The fact they will be affordable for some time to come is good news imo.
Sure cant afford a chrome bumper C3, camaro chevelle, etc. Gotten too expensive.
