Default American Icons: Class Project

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for some help, and decided to look to some of the most intelligent Americans on the web. :chevy
I'm taking a print making class, which is actually a workshop so we get to specialize with any type of media we choose. I really like lino cuts. Anyway, we need to pick some kind of theme to work on for the next 10 weeks and I have this itch to do something really american based. It would be awesome if you guys could list some of the things that really make America what it is. But what I'm also looking for are icons in America that the rest of the world recognizes as being truly American. example: Walt Disney, Marilyn Monroe.
Thanks!!

and...Corvette. It's always been known as "America's Sports Car". So, to me, there's is no other car that symbolizes America like the Corvette. Free spirit, fast, daring, etc.

The name comes from a very speedy British warship used in World War II. Rather fitting don't you think...speedy warship. Corvette debuted on the market in 1953...we're coming up on its' 50th Anniversary!! That's longer than any other single model car in American History!...there IS a reason.

Personally, I wanted the first corvette I saw...1958, but wasn't able to fulfill my dream until my 50th birthday. Viet Nam, school, wife & kids all got first priority. Currently I own a 92 LT1 convertible. I LOVE THIS CAR.

corvette of course, maybe a '57 chevy, juke box, bigboy restaurant, rte. 66, high school class ring, pizza, beer, eagle, uncle sam, '32 ford coupe, harley davidson, baseball, liberty bell, NRA, ballot box, marx brothers, bozo, ted nugent, john wayne, cheese burger, M16, peace keeper (MX) ICBM, three stooges, sheesh- these seem kinda cliche'.

They may seem cliche, but what you just refreshed my memory on is exactly what I'm looking for!!! Wow, John Wayne, the stooges, a 53 vette on Route 66. Oh yeah! I'm definately going to run these by my professor. Hopefully he'll go with it. Thanks! :flag

I do believe that Ted has a ZR1 from an interview I heard once......"only buys the best" and the ZR1 was first on the list of items he listed.

Big breasted women with short skirts, a beautiful corvette, and a soldier, a cop, and a fire fighter fighting for all the freedoms that we share as Americans.

OK this is the all time scenario
A GI, going to a small town's Little League Baseball game, eating a hot dog, drinking a coke, with his girl, in the summer on the 4th of July with the top off of the Chevy Corvette. You can not get anymore american then that!

My professor is stealing the fun out of this project. Like any Art Professor he'd like it to have more content. He gave me a for instance. A contrast between Marilyn Monroe and Mother Teresa on 1 print. Ugh. :( I mean, this is frustrating. I really wanted to do something fun, but now its shot. I'm going to talk to him. What a bummer though.
