HELP - LT4 or LT1 with all the options
Hey guys, looking to pick up my first Vette this weekend. I finally got all the cash together but I'm stuck between a 1994 White LT1, six speed, with the adjustable ride control, power seats, cd player, removable top, really clean for $9,500 and a 1996 red LT4 base coupe without any options for $10200. Aside from the engine and the removable top it doesnt have anything. Whats you guys' opinion? Thanks guys

Depends on what you want, more stuff to play with or more power. Which car is in the best shape, thats the way I would I would choose.

LT4- the only option you are missing is Adj suspension. Power seats I think were std by the time they hit 96 unless someone swapped out the seats. Removable top std on all coupes. CD player- most replace down the road anyways.

As socalman mentioned, even that LT4 your looking at has the removable top.
All C4's do. There are two options for it though, painted body color or semi-transparent.
I think power seats were still an option though in '96.
And your not missing anything with the adj. suspension. The '96 version was a one year only setup and parts are very hard to come by.
Pick the car that is in the best condition.
I would chose an excellent condition '94 LT1 over an average condition '96 LT4
Don't pick a car with some what you might think are minor issues that you can fix later.
In almost all cases, unless you know what your doing you will spend more in the long run doing that.

If the cars are local to you, ask if you can take them to an independent auto repair shop and get a Used Vehicle Inspection (UVI). For around $125, you should get a written report that shows any issues in any of the vehicle systems.
I had a '92 with the FX3 suspension and really liked it. When something fails, it can be pricey to fix, but you can also get some stiffer shocks for a base suspension car and increase the handling capability.
The LT4 will have more power and from that standpoint it may be more desirable. The front brakes will be bigger. If you don't have the CD in the radio, you can always install an aftermarket system

I am biased aginst those base no-option Vettes. Large Chevy stores would order those no-option units and sell them as ad-cars. "Buy a brand new Corvette for only $299 a month!!!"

both of the cars have about 90000 miles on them.

The white one looks like it's more photogenic.
If you're happy with either color, then go test drive both of them. See if one feels any different.
The A/C isn't really anything to hang up on. I looked to avoid the adjustable suspension just because I read that it was expensive and would go out at some point. Maybe that was just my paranoia, but I was sort of relived when the LT4 I bought didn't have it.

The white on looks cleaner.
I would go for the 96,LT4,vented opti,newer
See which one leaks less oil
drive both, try the lights, cruise, bright lights ect.
See if you can find out how long it was on the lot.
Offer them 3 to 5 K less than the asking price and see what happens.
mine started off at 12,999 3 months later they were asking 10,999 and I got it for 7900.
These cars are not in high demand so low ball them and get yourself a good deal.
I have been watching a 95 for 6 months W/51 k on it,price has not changed from 12,999 but I know I could get it cheaper.

I actually saw a 96 with manual AC, manual seats, and standard (no cd or cassette) radio the other day. I suprised the guy didn't brag about how rare it was, probably didn't realize it. No options on a vette is still a pretty loaded car. Anyway, the 96 in the same condition with the same mileage but a LT4 is worth at least about 30% more than any LT1 car, and will be until they balance the budget (that would be a very long time). Investment, performance, fun factor... that would be the 96.

I'm REALLY liking that white vette with the saddle/black interior and the painted targa top Only thing I could see was the drivers side weatherstripping probably needs replacing but you don't find a lot of C4's that don't need it at one point. Personal choice I'd go with that one but like some have said drive both and give them a thorough once over and compare maintenance records if available. Whichever one you select...we need PICS or it didn't happen and NO you can't post the dealership pics...needs to be in your driveway preferably with the wife/girlfriend

Drive both that should tell you which one feels better to you. If much the same, I would lean towards the LT4. It was only produced that one year, and I think will be highly collectable as time goes on.

I got the LT4. When I was shopping, I drove an L98, and I had driven a 94 LT1 years ago. A one-year only engine is pretty pimpish. Mine doesn't have too many options, dual roof, CD/Cassette BOSE, power seat, climate control, leather. No ride control, changer, or anything like that. Still, like the man said, they're all very nice cars, and the LT4 is the LT1 you spend 4K in bolt-ons and tuning trying to get.

If that is your final 2 , from the pics I would say the white one. Before I saw the pics I would go LT-4. The 96 looked road hard ie worn seat, weathered wheels...etc... . The seat in the 96 didnt look like a "sport" seat unless they are different in the CE. If you can find a LT-4 that looks as nice as the white car for that kind of $$ then that would be !
