Default Pressure relief valve

On the 1984 Corvette, is the A/C compressor relief valve at the right top of the compressor able to be separated? Can the plastic end which appears to be an electrical connector be separated from the brass fitting without losing refrigerant? Trying to replace valve cover gasket and end of electrical connector interferes with going straight down. Will just make the job easier and less chance of screwing up the gasket.

The one that goes on the back of the compressor where the hoses are mounted screws into a Schrader valve. Mine seeps a small amount when removed but is a negligible amount.
