Looking at a 94
Hi all,
I have been looking to buy a c5, but yesterday I saw a 1994 at a local show. The car appeared to be in excellent condition. The car is white
with red interior. The paint and interior is in very good condition, tires
appear to have 80% tread left. Engine bay clean with no obvious leaks.
I did not drive the car, but running at idle, the engine was very smooth.
this car has 61,000 miles. The owner is asking $10,000-OBO.
What is a fair price for this car. This is not a convertible.
thanks-jerry
Forgot to mention this is a automatic.

Depends upon your location. With those mile, and excellent condition probably a fair price. Maybe a little high in this economy, but prices will be temporarily higher in the spring. Not a great investment, but great drivers, and very reliable (waiting for some opti-spark breast-beater)

If you can do a lot of your own maintence C4 is a fun car, if your gonna rely on shops to do it. Id go with the latest year lowest milagae you can afford. With any car with a lot of years, your gonna have some issues. Im a fan of the extra HP from the LS and the heads up display. The after market has a lot more parts for C5's.

Educate yourself too, on common problems. Do a search on C4 inspection on the C4 forum and you'll find the common problems associated with any particular year or late C4 vs early C4. I knew about the power brake booster prob on the late C4's and just did one, so it was expected.
Good luck and tell us how you do!

C5 buyers sometimes cross shop the C4 because of the price difference, but I really don't they leave as good of an impression as the C5 on a short test drive.

When I was in the market 6 years ago, I considered a C6 as well as a
C5 but the C4 spoke to me and 6 years later I'm still happy with my choice. At the time, the C5 was a distant second and the C6 didn't appeal to me at all.
If you're ever in RI (yeah, I know, ha ha!) and you see a polo green '92 convertible driven by a dufus with a big smile on his face, be sure to wave.
