The age old question....TIRES..advice please
So, I am going to get some new rubber for my 92 convertible w/ stock saw blades.
I have been leaning toward the Continental Extreme Contact DW's.
($147 each shipped w/ stems from Discount Tire Direct)
Has anyone used these tires? If so, can you give me your opinions?
If they are no good, what other options in the same price range are a better choice?
Thanks,
-Rick

Discount is pretty good about listing their tire ratings online for wear etc. If the tire is rated above 200 its generaly good. This being said there are tires for our cars in the high 300s for wear and durability. Thats how I judge my tires. I have not used the tires you are asking about but I have opinions on Faulkin, Nitto, GYs, Nexens and BFGs. In short buy the best tire you can afford

For that price you can get Kumho XS,your car will handle fantastic but they wont last as long as the others , 180 rating.

If price is an option and you want a good ride w/ durability...try the Cooper Zeon tires.
I've used them on my car with excellent ride and durability (I don't drag w/ other cars but I so enjoy bouts of "spirited" driving). Also one other good thing...they're available at most local tire shops (no shipping & handling fees).
Thats just my two cents.
"RESPECT THE VETTE"

They just started making the 285/40/17 less than a year ago.
I think it would be a better choice than the Kumo's
I was considering that tire also with all its good reviews.
I am trying to decide between new wheels and tires or just tires.
I say go for it and than tell us about them, they are new fro the 285 so you may not find anyone on here that has them
As you can see my Avitar I was looking at that tire

I live in a warmer climate and have had good luck with yokohamas over the years, but for C4's it is hard to beat the all-around performance of the Goodyear GS-D3 aquatread looking donuts. They are just so good in the rain and pretty good for dry traction/lifespan.
They will cost you about a $1000 though- My last car had them courtesy of the previous owner and I have decided to repeat with them with again.

They look like a good tire I have no experience with them.
The Cooper zeon I cannot reccomend. Wife had them on her 04 and they did not ride well. Grip was fair, not great.
I have Summito HTRZ as my street/track rain tire. I like them cause I know exactly when they are going to lose grip. And they are inexpensive

C4 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
Well interestingly enough I have been driving with them and am now on my second set.
I use them as my cold weather / rainly season tires on my stock sawblades (it rains here 7 months of the year). I have driven in up to 4" of snow a dozen times over the past several years with them and they performed great. One thing I will say to you however is that I run an older tread pattern than what is available now. It changed two years ago and this past fall I actually paid extra for discount tire to find me 4 of them in their warehouses in the older tread pattern .... it's more agressive .... more like a snow tire that the newer ones. These tires are great in the rain, very steady and sure footed. I run 275x40x17 on all four corners and can rotate them front to back each year.
The rubber compound is actually designed to grip well when the road surface is cold .... they will wear much faster in the summer when the road temps are high.
In the summer I run goodyear GSD3s on my chrome 5 spokes and they are very good in the warm weather but not nearly as good as the Conti's are in the cold.
Hope that helps

havent used that model tire but had Contis on another car recently sold and loved them, thought they were a quality tire. Better than the Pirellis I replaced them with.

Nitto NT555s. Bought a set of 4 last month ($160 per) 285/40/17. Put a little of 1000 miles on them so far... great tire! Like the rest of the country we (Phoenix, AZ) are in the middle of a cold spell here... yesterday morning it was right about freezing... I took the Corvette to work just to see how the 555s handled the cold (they are summer tires)... couldn't tell the difference. Still handled great. Highly recommended.

I can't speak from experience for the C4, but my last two Nissan Altimas came with Continental tires and I was very happy with them. Our current Altima has Continentals on it and they run quiet, wear well and are predictable under varying weather conditions. I got over 80,000 miles from the last set.
The C4 I just bought has Bridgestone Expedia S-01's on it and so far they seem up to the task. I used to road race in the SCCA on Bridgestone tires in the early-mid 1990's and they never let me down.
Just a word to the wise and I'm sure that I am "preaching to the choir" on this one.....NEVER put cheap tires on your Vette, or any other car for that matter.

I know you're budget is higher, but my Vette came with 4 275-40-17 Riken Raptor ZR tires. Had never heard of them so did some Googling, they actually get a reasonable review, very good dry traction. I found them reasonably quiet, certainly crisp steering but no idea on longevity. Biggest thing is they are dirt cheap at around $100 each.
For me, I don't care about longevity as it will take years to wear them out (except maybe the rears) but they look good, ride well and at that price, I won't be afraid to light them up occasionally

A factor I always try and throw in is "how much do you actually drive your car annually?" This is important because you can spend $400+ per tire and if you dont drive the Vette much, the tire will become unsafe to drive on long before the tread is gone. Age plays a big part as well as environment. If you park outside, sunlight (uv rays) will age a tire a lot faster than if its garage kept.
A lot depends on what your doing with the car. If your considering drag or auto cross that will warrant a drag radial or a stickier tire. Where you live is another consideration. How does your choice compare to what conditions you will be driving in.
Just a few things that make you say "Hmmmmmm"
