Default Nitto Invo and Nt555 Tires on a 1996 Coupe

Looking at the Nitto tire reviews, and they appear to be a great price and performance value. Anyone have a perference between the NT555and Invo models? I drive in NJ (Zoo Jersey) mostly Spring, Summer and Fall with a few clear cold Winter weather runs ... avoid rain and definately no snow or ice. Your thoughts on the new "boots" for my 1996 LT4 Coupe. Many thanks in advance.

Around Xmas I was looking hard at new shoes for the new wheels..that I still don't have..
I was always wondering about the 555's..seemed too cheap. But I haven't read any bad reviews

I use them as the street tires on my GS and on my BMW E90 335i. Great tires IMO. I live outside of Seattle and have never had an issue in the rain. Quiet, predictable, wear well, very good dry traction.

Several people have made the switch on their ZR-1s, especially running the DRs on the back and the Nitto performance tires on the front (not sure of the exact model for the fronts). Apparently, they work quite well in the rain too as the trip to and from the BG get together last spring was in a torrential downpour and there were no complaints.

I'm now putting over 430 hp to the ground, and the GY -D3s won't stick in first or second gear at WOT. Based on the experiences of others around me that love 'em, I intend to "Nitto" my Z this spring. Price is right too!!

i have the 05's on my 86, looks like they are right between the 555's and invo's. In very cold weather (below 20) they are hard and sometimes difficult to drive, but still predictable, this probably wouldn't occur with the 555's. In the rain they were way better than I expected, I was nervous the first time I was caught in a storm but had plenty of confidence after seeing how they perform. I have done an HPDE and an autocross on them, they handled and griped amazing. Also, I was surprised at how quiet they were and how much smoother the ride was than the firestones I had previously (although they were pretty old).

Very good tires for the money. There is the 555 the 555r thats discontinued and now replaced with the 555r 2. Then there are the invos. Those are the most common ones they seem to sell with nt05 being a great tire as well. I thought the nt05 were actually more track tire then the invo buck could be thinkin of their other tire. They tend to run small though whatever size you get. Guys with new z06's switch from the 325 goodyear to 345 invos and dont need any speedometer changes usually because they are so comparable. My buddy just got his 285's off his mustang and replace them with 275. it was a 9 inch rim but the 285 still fit pretty comfortably on them, but you could tell at certain angels it was too big a tire for the rim. It seem most common to go with the 555 for the front and the 555R drag radials for the back.

Also, try looking at Toyo, same parent company as Nitto. The proxy 888(maybe?) and TR1 and supposedly amazing tires for the money.

I just bought a set of NT555s for my 88 coupe (285/40/17 all around)... and then almost immediately took them on a 1000 mile road trip to San Diego and back (Phoenix). Performed flawlessly, road nice, quite, gripped like crazy in the twisty mountains just outside of Yuma, AZ (especially compared to the 10 year old Dunlop All-Seasons they replaced). Would I love a set of GY D3s... yeah, who wouldn't... but for the money ($160 per) these Nittos can't be beat.

Highly recommend.

I have 555s up front and 555R drag radials in the back. As stated above,555s runs quiet, smooth, and handle very well for the money.

I have had 555rs for a long time and putting Down good hp on my zr-1.

Awesome grip, good price, slightly narrower tire - sidewalls rounded instead of squared like a Gsd-3 tire.

I had to go with a 10 1/2" wide Fikse wheel in back versus 11" just so the 315/35-17 Nitto DR width and sidewall would look right and proportional to the rim.

I have the 555's on my C4, and am looking at either the 555r or Nt05r for my Monte Carlo. The 555's hook great, On my weak TPI auto. Since the 96 is different sizes, you could do 275/40 555r drag radials on the rear. The car doesn't put down enough power to need the more expensive and stickier Nt05r.

But enough rambling, Nitto's all the way

Many thanks for all the replies. One last question ... in cold weather, New Jersey, how well do the 555's stick and handle when compared to the Invo's?

I'm strongly considering Nitto's as my next set of tires.

I have the 555's on my '94 ZR-1 and I am very happy with them. Considering the car is not driven for several months at a time, I haven't had any issues with flat spots either.

Both are summer tires and really shouldn't be driven in snow or at temps below freezing. The day I bought my 555s was one of the colder days here in Phoenix... 41*. After getting them installed I took them for a little test drive to see how the did at temps this low. No problem... stuck like glue. But per the manufacture they shouldn't be driven in snow or at temps at or below freezing, so I was probably on the edge of the envelope at 41*.

Default nitto 555

Stated earlier on another thread I bought 4 for my '95 vert. All 4 were bad, flat spotted and could not zero out on the road force balancer after 4 tries. I called Discount Tire Direct and they sent 4 new ones out for free, with valve stems, and picked up the 4 bad ones at the local Chevy dealer (they also shipped the new ones there) all for free and shipped them out the same day that I called with the problem.

The Nitto 555 ride great and are quiet. Great tire for the money, too bad I just sold the Vette.
