Default Jake

Hello everyone, this is Ryan Cameron, JAKE's son (username: JAKE-Son or kobrah1) I know my father is a very active member on the Corvette forum and it hates me to bring bad news to such a great open-forum. If none of you knew, my father has been battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer and after having several days of severe headaches this past Saturday night he had suffered a brain aneurysm which caused severe brain injury. Along with his severe brain injury and cancer, the doctors are unable to do anything. Currently he is brain dead and expecting to pass in the next couple of days. All of the family flew overnight to be with him and we are repecting his wishes as in terms of medical care and are just waiting for his passing.

My father and I were in the process of building a 398 for my vette as a last father-and-son project and knowing that he would not want me to give up on anything in life. I am asking for help on searching for the last parts and a teacher to help me assemble it. I can turn wrenches and repair most things on my vette, but never built a engine He was going to teach me everything in order to build it and be there every step of the way. I'm just looking to complete our project and learn everything I can. Please contact me at (JAKE,JAKE-SON or kobrah1 my e-mail is ckobrah1@aol.com) for more details on anything regarding the engine-project or my dad.

Thank-You for your time

-Ryan

Ahhh damn I'm so sorry to hear this....especially near the holidays. I wish we lived closer....we're an old group of greybeards here, and we could teach you anything you need to know.

Again, my condolences. Talked to your dad on here many times over the years

Ryan I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am to hear about your father . I know that many of the Forum members as well as myself will be thinking about and praying for you and your family. I don't have the kind of experience your looking for but I'm sure the members that do will be in contact with you. If I could ask when you get a chance at a latter time we would be interested to see how your car is coming along and how your doing. All my best to you and your family.

Your father always had good posts and was definitely a car guy through and though. God Bless him, you, and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope someone in the Corvette community that lives close by (or maybe not) will help you finish your car, I bet your dad would love to see that. God Bless.

So sorry to hear about your dad.
I hope he is not in pain and will rest in peace.

If you were local to me, I'd volunteer to help with your engine build.
From your location, it looks like you are in between to major cities.
I don't know anyone personally anywhere near you that I'd trust to assemble an engine.

One suggestion, I have, is to ask around and find out some names of good machine shops that are not too corporate. If you can find a guy that has a few employees and has all the machines, maybe he will let you hang out and show you some tips. It's amazing what you can learn by watching, maybe running your finger nail across a bearing surface and asking questions.

Another tip is to measure everything and not trust anything you didn't measure.
Measure everything. I use mics and indicators, not plastigage.
You may need to borrow some instruments if you don't have them, like mics, a bore gauge, dial indicator, etc.
If you want to buy your own instruments, there are some inexpensive tools at www.use-enco.com or at www.kbctools.com .
You don't need top brands for an occasional project especially if you are just measuring and are not doing any actual machining.

Take your time and ask questions if you are not sure of something or think something doesn't look quite right.

My sincerest condolences to you and your family. As mentioned, your Dad was always a thoughtful and wise voice here and I count myself as one of the many people helped by him.
His pride in your accomplishments was evident and I know you will turn out to be a great measure of the man he always showed himself to be for us. I'm too far away to help but be sure your extended family here on CF will answer any question you have on your build.

Again, my/our sympathy to you and your family.

Sorry to read this news. I always enjoyed the sometimes spirited banter/debate with Jake.

His knowledge and willingness to help will be missed.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. I always liked reading his posts/replies. I can't help much in regards to an engine build, heck there's guys here that have forgotten more about vettes than I'll ever know (but I'm working on that). When you get your build done like I'm sure you will don't forget to post pics for us. The engine's going to be a great tribute to your dad and the time you spent on it. Again sorry to hear about this and know there's a vette community offering prayers for you and your family

astepup said that
