Burning Brakes
Those prices are about what I paid for mine with over double the milage. I can't complain though, I got the color I wanted. Those cars are a steal though. I would expect all to be at 10-12k instead.

I do hate to see such low prices on such great cars, but times are tough and I would image extremely bad around the Detroit area. If you are hard up for money just to meet your daily living expenses the first things that have to go are you toys.
That being said I am not a bit sorry about what I paid for my '95 LT1 and plan to keep it. To me the C4 is one of the best looking Vettes they ever produced.
I did not buy mine as an investment, I bought it for fun and it sure gives me a lot of fun.
It would be nice if some day the prices on C4 would start going up, but it really doesn't matter to me.

I only paid 7400 for my 90 with 56K on it.
Now
what
I
didn't
Know
Was it needed a new catback, new FPR, new injectors, new weather stripping, new stereo, new tires, new seat leathers.
My point is a lot of these cars need work to get them up to what they should be whether one thinks so or not. It will be extremely rare to find one of these cars this low price and not need work. They are out there due to hard times for the owner, but my guess is that's the exception.
I've been looking at vettes non stop and that's my take anyway. I could be wrong though.

High production numbers could be one reason, then again look at 65-66 Mustang prices/production numbers. C4's to the car magazines etc. are treated like Mustang II's and therefore reflected as such.

I remember a time people gave me crap for restoring a 70 Camaro, or restoring a 69 GMC truck, now I'm the one having the last laugh. All cars hit rock bottom around 20-25 years old. Best time to buy.

Never seen many road race mustang lls, King Cobra lls are nothing, but I think any ZR1, LT4, or maybe even the LT1 and L98 owners will beg to differ.

Leader one you need to come down to the real world like I had to. Throw away your VetNInvestment price guides. Forget what you have been told .Craiglist is now the unoffical price guide of C4 and C5 Corvettes. A poor economy, Corvette owners with no patience lusting for newer C6s have all added to the C4 and C5 demise. I have sitting in my garage a spotless 84 With thousands invested into it. Right now I would be thrilled to get $4,000 which no one will give me. The going price for early C4 s is $3500 or less. Less in most cases unless you can find someone who just does not know the Market. My cousin has just sold a black on black C5 Worked engine and a bunch of other goodies in excellent shape for a 97 K car. He was hoping to get $15,000. After months of no bites he is letting it go for $10,500. Thats were we are at. At this point Mustangs are a better investment. That C4 is worth every penny of the 8 Grand asking price. But the seller better take his $6,000 offer and run or just sit on it. I think we are in trouble as sellers. Best advice is to just hold onto them. Maybe that will bring the prices up?

Current market Value
Those cars are slightly below Current market Value. At the same time there a people trying to sell their C4's for more than Current market Value.
Those 3 cars are right in line for what they are selling for. I want a 2002-2004 ZO6 and those can be had with low miles for $20K or less. Its the best time to buy a used Corvette.
Forget you own a C4 and come back in 10-15 years. Thats when they will be "worth" more. For now, drive them till the doors fall off.

Personally I am GLAD the prices are low right now. I was able to pick mine up for 3,000. I was looking for another truck at the time, however I fell in love with the car and couldnt pass it up.

I've had my vette for less than 2 months...so take this with a grain of salt..but if the market wasn't low right now I do not know if I would own a vette. I was able to pay cash, I smile every day that I am driving my dream car, and lets face it.....at the end of the day....chicks dig vettes.

Right now there are TWO factors at work driving the C-4 prices down.
The first is the U-shaped curve of Corvette values which has been at work since the beginning. It starts out as an expensive new car, gradually loses value as it gets older until it becomes just another used sports car. Then gradually the age begins to work in the owner's favor as they become more rare and desired. The price then climbs as they are seen as collectible. C-4's are at the bottom of this U right now and probably will start to SLOWLY become more desirable over the coming years.
The other factor is the economy which is depressing prices of all non-essential items. There have been several owners here who lost their jobs and came to the painful decision they could not eat their Corvette for dinner or put it on their kids feet. Reality dictated they sell, hopefully to buy another in the future.
When both of those combine, values go way down. I understand the OP's point but we can't really expect someone to hold out for $3000 more just to keep the values up. And add me to the crowd - I don't care that I paid more for mine than it's worth today. I have put 16,000+ miles on it in just over 2 years, and I have no intention of selling. If it goes to a value of $100, I'll still drive mine and smile.
