You can go online to one of the railroads and apply. If you get hired on they send you to their training facility for a few weeks and depending on the railroad they help you pay for the training.

half way around the world working on diesel-elecrtic off-highway toys right now. the C4 doesn't fit in the overhead storage bin though.
