I recently bought a rear hatch w/s from Willcox, and it reeked of what smelled like insecticide. Nothing I tried solved the problem, so I sent it back. Told them that if they had one that didn't stink, I'd be happy to have it in exchange. They declined to try again. There is no way I'd install something that smelled like that on my Corvette. I wouldn't put something that smelled that bad on a go-kart.
Sorry to hear you're having the same problem. The only thing I can suggest is to let it air out, and hope for the best, if you've already installed it.
Good luck with it. Let us know how it turns out.

That smell is from the rear hatch seal. Man, that smell is going to hang around for a while. My car is rarely driven, and a year later, I still get a hint of that odor as soon as I open the door. The "reinforced corners better than GM" will split before the smell goes away

What that smell????
My rear hatch seal came from Wilcox also...reminded me of a skunk or mildew from wet carpet.
Unfortunatly it took 2 YEARS for it to go away.

Wow....that's odd. Mine had no odor at all. If nothing else works, put it in a small room with an ozone generator. A few hours later, no smell whatsoever.

Was the smell present after the package was unwrapped from Willcox? I wonder if letting it sit and bake outside in the sun, for a few days, will remove the smell?

definetlly leave it outside or the garage for a couple of days to get rid of the smell. Dont do like I did and leave it inside the house

I got my rear hatch WS from Wilcox. When it first arrived I opened the package and put it in the basement. The next day my wife told me to get it out of the house. I put it in the garage for a few weeks and the smell was gone by the time I installed it (with jon0108's help).

I tried soaking it in water overnight in the laundry sink, washing it down with soap and water, and none of that helped. I then laid it out across the picnic table in my backyard, and it stunk up half of the neighborhood. The odor seemed to have eased up a little bit after four days out there, but it still reeked, so I sent it back. There is NO WAY that was going anywhere near my Corvette. I wouldn't have used that weatherstrip to seal a coffin.
