1994 no heat just cold air
I recently bought a 94 convertible after selling our 94 coupe. The car had been sitting for several years and smelled real bad inside so I removed the interior to shampoo all the carpets. I reinstalled it but the mouse nest must be in the heater box as pieces keep coming out of the vents when the blower is on. The car still smells a bit and I want to correct the problem. The heat does not work and it only blows cold air even with electronic climate control set to 90 degrees. Could the blend door not be operating?? Do I need to remove the heater box to clean out and if so how do I do this???? What is the proper sequence to trouble shoot this????
Thanks for any help

Step 1) Make sure stat is not stuck and water is getting hot
Step 2) Make sure there's ENOUGH water for proper operation
Step 3) Gain access to the heater core to see if it's getting hot
Step 4) If 1-3 true, check blend door for proper operation
Other steps may be required. It's not my yr of vette.

The hose temp means zilch (unless they're both cold which would probably mean a bum thermostat).
I'd be more inclined to expect a plugged up core which causes the coolant to flow over the top of the core rather than through it. You can try to flush it. There's also a check valve on the inlet hose that can crud up.
The crap out of the vents would be a concern. From the Factory, the inlet side of the Evaporator has (or had) a foam filter glued to it. When the Evaporator leaks, compressor oil gunks up the foam and destroys it. You then get bits of it blowing out of the vents.
