Default Good Deal?

I'm really leaning on buying this 1 owner car fax certified 1996 red/blk leather corvette, 29k miles automatic coupe, he wont take anything lower then 13.5k, it is Mint i mean this thing should be in a museum. So my fellow vette experts should i go for it? What i found odd was that it had manual seats and the service asr light and asr off light is on, on the rear he has a 275/40 17 inch tire and a 285/40/17 tire on the same axle, could the tires trigger the asr lights to come on? they stay off when i start the car, yet when i hit the gas the lights illuminate? hmmmmm it is also priced below fair kbb which is 15.5k.

Can not speak to the ASR light issues....including the different size tires on same axle????...But, just taking your description at face sounds like asking price is fair.....However, would suggest that ride be inspected by a knowledgeable vette mechanic before purchase...

Good Luck and SAVE THE WAVE

Two different size tires on the rear could very well trigger the asr light.
But those two sizes are really close in overall diameter, so it's hard to say if that is your problem or not.
The 285 is approx. 0.31" taller than the 275
I wouldn't drive mine around with two different sizes like that.

If the car is "mint" like you say, that is a good price for a '96 with only 29k miles.
You will find Corvette prices all over the place and location plays a big part in it.

mismatched tires and warning lights illuminated is not "mint" to me. But that price is a mint. That sounds like a fair price to me if all were perfect. I'd use that as a starting point. Knock $500-1000 off for new and correct rear tires, and a few hundred more off to troubleshoot and fix the ASR.

If you just have to have the car, buy it. If you don't, and the guy won't deal, it's not the last C4 for sale.

If he wants his price, the least he could do would be to match those tires and see if that light goes out.
For that price, that car should have NO issues.
For that kind of $$, you can buy a decent C 5 in today's market.

It doesn't usually happen... but we definitely agree on this one.

Personally I would really wonder about a car owned by somebody who would mismatch tires like that.

I think people are mistaking "detailed and waxed" for "mint". Mismatched tires would send up a red flag about the size of the moon, to me.
I'd find another C4.

x 2, mint means no problems, no stories. First if the guy IS the original owner, it doesn't speak well of the maintainance the car has had. More likely, it's been through one or two "flippers" (at least) who are trying to make a couple of grand on the cheap with an open title . (when someone says "one owner" that means he bought the car new, unless he identifies himself as an agent for the original owner, otherwise he's lying to you) Manual seats is indeed very rare on a 96, which makes me suspicious, and not that desireable. It sounds as if he has problems with one or more of the sensors. I have no Idea where kbb gets it's prices, maybe they haven't upgraded for a few years.

I'd definitely be asking about the tires. I don't even think they make 285's anymore, at least not the American brands. Tire rack sells Khumo's in a 285, but I'd be looking at the mfg. date on those too.

You already have a few red flags, I would worry about what isn't showing. Mismatched tires, DAMM! If he couldn't afford proper tires what other shortcuts did he take.

Did he give a reason for the tire size difference, or say how long it was like that?

I agree with all the other posts. This "mint" doesn't seem mint.

Sometimes, somethings are to good to be true. This may be one of those times.

Beware and look very close.

Are you saying if he isn't careful, this car might give him a raging case of herpes?

Well, you know what they say about Corvettes; they're like Lay's Potato Chips. No one can eat just one.
