Default Pictures of track C4s...

I just took a bunch of pics at VIR and it got me thinking. Everybody loves a nice, shiny, looks like new car but how about those C4s that do the dirty work? I seem to see them popping up at the track more and more these days... so let's see em!

I'm putting up a lot... because I can.

Cool pics. It's a blast to have the tail stepped out under power coming out of the high speed right hander (turn 10) on to the front stretch.

If I'm not mistaken, most of your pics are of that turn.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks Reds C4 is the ultimate looking "track car" but it is nice seeing others out there on the twisties. Damn I'd love to do that someday...even though mine's an automatic.

I loved the pictures.
I recently purchased a 96 red LT4. I bought it to take to VIR. I have drove twice on track days. I drove my brothers modified 99 Mustang. So now I am hooked. I have started doing a few modifications to the car.
I like your hood scoop! Who manufactured it ? I also noticed allot of other cool ideas, so more pictures would be appreciated.

My first time with the car at VIR, is the weekend of Oct. 2. 2010. So, I will submit pictures after that event.

Thanks

Thanks cool pics, so how easy or hard was it to get around those Porsche's? I know you said in another thread you run close to ZR1 lap times what type of power do you need with a C4 to do that?

Great thread Red! We have been seeing a lot of "lets see your red, white, blue, etc Vettes" and this is a nice compliment to those! Track Vettes are awesome because its totally different than a show car! You are looking to make the car faster not "prettier"... If I ever have the opportunity I want to learn how to race and build a race car... Awesome pics guys, keep them coming!

I didn't notice that at first but it does appear that way.

Mine is an auto too, its still a blast and I plan on doing it many more times in this car (can't drive a stick much due to knee issues). Don't let that keep you away.

The scoop is part of the Greenwood G4R kit. Is there anything specific you are wanting to see? I have pictures of just about every part of the car.

Thanks a bunch. I'm actually considering putting it up for sale soon... I have some very evil ideas running through my head and haven't decided which route I am going to go. Stay tuned.

I run really close to stock C6 Z06 times when we are both on similar tires. The Boxters, Caymans, and older 911s usually aren't too difficult to get around although the Porsche guys really don't seem to like getting passed by an old Corvette. The GT3s are a little more difficult. I was finally able to get a few laps running with a few new GTRs on this last trip to VIR. As much as I hate to admit it, they are pretty impressive cars. I was able to hang close on the straights and on braking but with all of those fancy traction control systems and the AWD, they are ridiculous on corner exit.

As for what kind of power it takes, I am just short of 500bhp with a 3.73 rear gear. The car is also relatively light. I can pull right with the C6Z, Vipers, etc on the low end but they all get me on the top side of the really long straights.

What kind of speeds do you see at the end of those long straits? And what do you think they are doing to pull ahead of you?

That Greenwood G4R kit is the nicest body mod I've seen on a C4. You run a good looking set up Red.

Thanks a bunch

I see somewhere about 155 mph on the back stretch at VIR. They are pulling at the top end because of power and gearing. The big LS7, Viper V10, etc are HUGE at the top end of compared to my car. I have a 383 LT4 that makes tons of low end power with the 3.73 but it just can't compete up top. I am almost all the way through 5th gear and starting to run out of steam where as they are still pulling like a champ. My top end is probably somewhere about 170mph whereas the Z06 and others are obviously higher than that. I have seriously considered a little shorter gear to try to get some more but I am afraid of losing my low end pull. Corner exit the place that I make up the most time on the other RWD cars with the setup that I have now.

Excellent Thread idea Red- and as always, your car looks awesome. Someday, I'd like to do that around here, but most tracks are pretty far away (cept Fontana, and I don't think I want my first time to have a wall there), so I've got to get a trailer, helmet and all the right safety equipment first as well.

Does it run in the $200-$300 range for a day where you go?

For non-competitive (HPDE) yes, but that is just the cost of the track time itself.

By the time you figure in parts, tires, gas, lodging, etc it gets to be WAY more than that.
