C4 prices are down?...says WHO????
OK...first off yes I know with the economy and the market, generally speaking prices are lower....however tonight I saw something I had to share. Coming through town on my way back from the Okiboji lakes I saw a vette at one of those lots where you go to buy a car if you can't buy one anyplace else, you know the ones...bad credit no credit pay by the week kind of place, and there sits a very nice white vette with 66K miles on the window so I pull in. It's an 87 auto and yes it was in very good shape from what I could see although the window WS would need to be replaced. I about fell over when I saw the price... 16,995. And they offered to finance the thing with a "suggested" down payment of over 2 grand. If that's the cars worth to them I should be able to get 24 grand for mine, so maybe I'll offer to trade them that 87 plus 7000 for my 94 with 35K on it
All kidding aside I'm wondering if here in the midwest...I'm in nw iowa...if people/dealers are placing that much value on something like that? If anybody's REALLY interested in this gem shoot me a pm and I'll get some pics of this undervalued beauty and post them up for all to see I've read a few posts in various threads where some guys have suggested that sellers are asking far less than they should be for their cars, unless it's a "must sell" situation. I'm starting to think there's some truth to that. This should make all the L98 guys happy to know their cars are worth so much to some folks...LT1 guys happier still..and the LT4/LT5 guys must be giggling uncontrollably by now

The only for sale LT4 non Grand Sport I had seen at Carlisle was priced at $16K, car had just over 50k miles but it was clean. But then most of the C4's I looked at the asking prices were high, even on Sunday afternoon.

Sorry not a chance, they are looking for a sucker.
You can ask anything you want for a car doesnt make it chit til it sells.
I said that.

I don't know, I have an offer for my 93 of $7,800 on the table, just may take it. The C4s are not bring too much here, but much better than a couple years ago when I bought it for $6,200.

I'm not THAT naive...I got mine last year with 29K on it for 13,500. I know that asking price is nowhere near what an 87 is actually worth. My point was that at least in this area any used vette has an unusually high pricetag. I've been to auto sites with ads from all over the US and it seems the closer to larger markets the more reasonable the asking prices...supply and demand. I was just floored by what they were asking.

The price the OP posted is a dream price, C4 prices in the northeast (northern NY and New England) are climbing. I believe these prices are more in keeping with what good C4's should bring. C4's are great cars, prices I see on this forum in some cases are 'give away, please please take it'. For example, take a look here. This publication covers much of New England. Go to this link, then enter Corvette in the search bar.

Look at the prices of C4s for sale right here on the forum. Most of them aren't selling even at give away prices.
I could say mine is for sale for $40k. It doesn't mean it's actually worth it. That 87 isn't even worth half of that price.

Believe me, C4 prices are down. I'd sell mine to pay off a new car I just bought for commuting, but I don't think there is any reason to forum advertise it when there are so many cars for sale cheap in whatever locality you live in.

That particluar place is selling to people who can't normally purchase elsewhere and don't have a choice.
But typically, from what I see vettes around the midwest, and here in particular, are a tad bit higher than in warmer climates due to supply. But they aren't selling very well either.
Face it fellas, we have cars that are at or near their bottom value. They will go up but how much and how soon depends on things I don't know anything about.
I've see them priced fro what I consider a steal and I've seen them priced where I laughed out loud at them.
I have noticed people here think a lot more of their cars than they have right to. A C5 with over a 100K on it and they ask 16 to 18. Yeah in your dreams. I'll wait till they bottom out as well and then I will be able to find a low mileage C5 for that 16.
Seriously if I thought I could get 9 or 10K for mine, I'ld say bye bye today. One thing I've noticed on these C4's is the build quality isn't what one should expect and I'm tired of dumping money into a 66K car. 20 years old or not.
This L98 is a nightmare to work on. Good grief you have to remove parts just to do a simple fuel pressure test.

C4 prices are way down and if you want it, you can negotiate for a lower price.

Prices are down across the board. Local dealer had an 02 C5 silver convertible with 72k on it and couldnt sell it for 17k. Very clean car but it did have the crankshaft wobble. Last time I checked he was carrying it to the dealer auction. Been on his lot since April and wouldnt move.

When I bought mine, I looked at private sales as well as dealers and they were pretty much in the same range. I got my 2004 6 speed coupe for $19.5K with 40ish K miles on it, still think it was a good deal. Been using it on the track a little which is why I may let the C4 go, would like to build another one for the track and since I already have the engine, all I need is a good starter car and my 93 is too nice to cut up. So with prices where they are, I'm better off selling it and picking up a decent high mileage car for the track for much less.

C4 prices down? Don't tell that to Joe C. on this forum, he just got $11,000 for his '90 in this economy. You would be surprised what a well maintained C4 will bring in.

Again, out here C5s don't stay on the lots long. They seem to turnover pretty quickly and I have seen them as low as $12K, but it was a high mileage 97 with wagon wheels and electrical demons

If the new owner is in here I apologize for being blunt but he/she paid way too much. I'm not at all saying it isn't a great car in great shape but it wasn't worth anywhere near $11k.
