Auto or Manual transmission?

I think auto is the way to go....
I like to take vette during hot season (with no roof) and make 100 miles, in slovenia that is close to me... There are a lot of routes there that travel all inside wood....
So I love to do this

Old thread, but a current topic.
Our C6 Brethren are having the same conversation, so far from what I’ve been following over there, my favorite response has been:
”Driving an automatic is like having sex with your hand... gets boring after a few times.
Driving a M6 GS C6 is like having sex with a different beautiful woman every night.
Pick one - you cant have both.”
I know, of no help, but a colorful comparison.

No offense to anyone who got an auto bc of the wife but honestly, how many times is she going to drive your car? And does she actually care about cars or just wants to drive it bc she can?
Maybe some wives do. I absolutely can't see that with my generation. All these young girls and women dont care about a car as long as it looks cool or gets high mpg (if its theirs). I definitely think its a generational thing.
I'd never ever get an auto bc of a wife. Luckily I aint married lol just a joke to all of u who are happily married

I have an auto. and use the lever to change gears whenever I want and no clutch problems, but then in my younger days the 4 speed was all the rage, just don't miss a gear with the throttle on the floor, speed shifting.

I drive for work too, five speed manual car very frequently so i understand your fatique.... I think you will be happy with an auto...., when you have driven manual for 125 miles every day you don't want anymore a stick in hand, when i've finished my workin' day i've need to drive relaxed

I'm in the same boat. I love manuals but I have driven a C7 and my C4, both autos and they are great especially the C7 8 speed auto with paddle shifters.

Auto or manual tranny?.....i have heard many debates as to which is better, but i have to ask Which is REALLY better, and to be honest i was wondering why they even made such a car in Auto
I purchased my corvette for the simple fact that I love cars(and wanted a domestic)....i knew my vette had to be a standard, and i cant really understand why they even made such a sports car in auto
Im curious what people have to say

Melting Slicks
I have a manual in both my daily driver (CTS-V) and my Covette. I love manual, gives so much more control and traffic or hills, etc... does not bother me one bit. Another bonus is since my Wife hates manual it stops her from borrowing my cars

For me it really depends. The Corvette is not my daily driver, not my only car. It is a weekend plaything so I definitely had to have the manual transmission.
If the Corvette was my only car/daily driver, I would probably choose the automatic. And save a little money on the purchase price too.

What you might not have considered...
I own an M6. Originally, I wanted an auto (after driving a stick for 20 years). I'm glad it worked out that THE car I picked happened to have a stick. It's an 89...the first year for the M6.
The downside is the lack of support for the DMF used on the rear of the engine. The first 2-3 years didn't have the best seal design either...which means you MIGHT end up needing to replace your flywheel...along with clutch parts. Autos just need fluid...and hopefully last the life of the car....that is, unless you mod it.
The updside of an M6 is it's power-handling and the ability to shift when you NEED to. M6 cars come with a much stronger rear end too. Had I not "backed into" the purchase an M6 car (back in 1999), I would not have made the decision to convert it to a 383. That's because I wouldn't have been willing to spend the dough to upgrade the diff/trans IN ADDITION to the motor!
So, this is a plus/minus scenario. If you want to upgrade power and have a C4 with modern power levels, the M6 is almost a necessity. At least it's a huge bonus in terms of cost consideration. If you've got the money to upgrade the trans/diff, you also have the money to spend it on the motor instead.
M6 cars are the MUCH stronger setup from the factory.
