What Color Should I Powder Coat My Intake?
A friend of mine just has his intake powder coated "almost chrome" He then polished the fins on the top. I must say that it looks awesome. I'm not too big into Chrome myself, but I want to have my intake done some color. I've got an extra intake sitting on my workbench (with a set of stock heads to follow soon so I can have them CNC'd).
Anyway, I know a guy who will powder coat it for the cost of materials plus a beer, so I'm trying to decide what I want. Red looks good, but I'm don't want people thinking it's an LT4 wannabe. I was thinking blue maybe? Problem is I don't really have anything else blue under the hood. How bad would that look, black or chrome valve covers with a blue intake?

I would say match the car or the interior but I dont think Polo would look that great under the hood as it does on it. I would prob go with the red it looks good and hell you basically got an LT4 anyway. .02 :jester

I think if you matched exterior color, then just accented the valve covers w/ the same it would look

Red, pizz on the people that are petty enough to think you are trying to copy an LT4. We know better :yesnod:

I was day dreaming one day about what I would do to make the engine look neater, and what to do to the intake.
Would Black look good, with the polished fins????? I dunno

I talked to a professional powder coater about doing that and he told me that the coating would discolor from the engine heat unless you used a special high tempature coating and he didn't use it so I had mine chromed. If you do that be sure to get the right coating.

Is there any truth to the powder coating contributing to the intake retaining heat??? I have heard this and was wondering if there is anytruth to it.. If it is true that is the last place on the engine you want to retain heat .. Cooler air does mean more power.

I had mine done in the almost chrome locally and it did not turn out as shiney as I had hoped. I should have gone for a color. So far, my intake has been blue, red, silver, American flag, and now the chrome look.
Doesn't look like this anymore though. That was back in February ;). Now I have the tall Melrose Tops valve covers and generally leave the fuel rail covers off so they stay nice for the shows. I need to powder coat the valve covers to match.
Here it is in the American Flag digs.

Looks great!!! How'd you paint those fuel rail covers?

The bottom pic, I had used a high temp red and taped off the emblems, but hand painted the lettering with a hobby paint. They did not last very well on my wifes car with the stock thermostat in it. They turned brownish with the under hood temps her car has. They worked fine on my car because it runs so much cooler with the 160 thermostat.
Thanks ;)

Sorry Nathan...It's not a CHEVY..but I got a LITTTTLE nutty on my last engine. I'll let you figure out what type of car it was. It went as good as it looked, 11.55@119 in 95 degree weather! :D
