Hi, All...I'm a "noob" here. I was just given my dad's '89 six-speed (black with red leather interior). This is my new project car. Plans are to make her as beautiful as she was in 1989! The car had been sitting OUTSIDE since the 90's. My plans are: new paint, new emblems, new weatherstrip, new seats, new carpets (and I LOVE the little valve stem caps with the Corvette Flag - gotta have four them!!!) I also found the cutiest black flip-flops with CORVETTE on them!! I've also driven a new car so a project car is a new experience for me - and I am having the time of my life with this. I can't wait until I have this all completed and can retire the RX-8. Loved the feel of how it drives and handles - impressed I got to 75 and still had 3 more gears to go!!!!! Everyone I've "met" on here has been great....

Great thread Mike!
Nice pics and stories all you new folks. Welcome to the forum
I'm far from a Veteran here, but I'm here just enough to annoy and yet tittilate the senses.
I like fast cars, slow women and dark beer. I believe in Mobil 1 and cheap wax.
My car is red, I never vote party lines and I like my eggs over-easy.
If any of you noobies have a question, I'll try to answer. I'm always 90% right and 50% wrong.
Whatever you do, be nice to me. I just won the Lottery and I'm always shipping nice people new cars. If you took the time to read all this, I might even let you pick the color.

My brother and his wife bought a new black fridge the same week I bought the vette. So my brother asks my neice to guess what I bought that day and tells her that its black too, to which she replies "did he get a fridge too??" It kind of stuck

I guess I am still a noob. Here are the facts:
1986 Corvette Coupe
50 k on the ticker at time of purchase
Not a damn thing wrong (other than the current tensioner issue)
Basically stole the car. The guys asking price was $7900. I thought it was a steal anyway.
I love this car. You guys are not kidding. Its a disease and I do NOT want the cure.

I just joined today. I recently purchased a 1989 coupe to drive in autoX events. This thing leaks like a BP oil well. It seems to be the intake manifold gasket. I am replacing it now. I appreciate the info from WW7. I'll add a picture when I learn how.

I am newbie here far as owning my own Vette. I registered a few years ago to read and see pics in threads. I think I may have asked a few questions on behalf of my Dad and friend who owns a C6.
My Dad recently gave me his 1986 Corvette. When I picked it up back in May it had terrible idling problem. High idle, inconsistent throttle, and surging. The fan had been replaced however the relay taken out and connected directly, as in fan always on. I replaced the TPS,IAC valve and cleaned the Throttle body. The car had sat for a few years uncovered in the hot Inland Empire sun previous to my Dad buying it. Took it to a dealer and they could not figure out the problem. A friend recommended a local muscle and old American make car shop in Hawthorne CA. Nice and old school. After a couple days they diagnosed that it needed an ECM.
Got a rebuilt ECM,new radiator and fan relays. The car is running pretty good now. Still needs a tune-up amongst a long list of things.

I was cleaning it and my neighbors dog came over to check things out

Melting Slicks
Hi all, Duke & Jackie here; we've been lurking for a few weeks since buying our new to us 89, seems like a fun place! It's a standard coupe, Bright Red/saddle auto. 43k miles. Needed nothing except some A/C repair, and when I have time I need to replace the noisy Bose rear speakers, but no hurry since I'm enjoying the engine sounds!
