New Vette Owner
Hi, All...my step-father just signed over his '89 six-speed vette to my husband and me. She is going to be a project for us. He purchased it brand new in '89 and after the tragic loss of his first wife he had let her parked outside (under a tree) and untouched until Barry and I towed her to our house. I'm getting excited for the process to begin - she's leaving on July 12th for a new paint job and all new weather strip. New tires are ordered and we're having the rims sent away to be reconditioned. Other than the carpet and leather seats needing replaced the interior is in good condition. Any help on places to order or send the seats would be appreciated. I can't wait until she's back to her original beauty. This has been a funny turn around for me....I've been looking for a vette now that my boys are grown....I was convinced I wanted a C3 and my husband refused to get one unless it was a C5 or newer...(that's why we haven't owned one yet) but after seeing Dad's face when we talked about the plans for this one - I'm totally convinced it will be everything I want and more importantly - the love behind it means more than anything.

There's some vendors here. Scroll down and look on the left for 'interiors'. They can make your seat covers, then you find a local auto upholstery place to do the install.
There's also Ecklers and Mid America (google) and they have online catalogs for you to check out.
Oh, and welcome to the Forum- lots of good people here to help you with all the other little things you may run across. Great place for do it yourselfers to get info.

Welcome to the forum and we want to see some pics when you get it back too. We like pics. here. Corvette Central is a good vendor also. And as Socalman said, lots of good people here, some experts that know every single nut and bolt on these cars and always glad to help too. I think you will be very happy with the C4 over the C3. I was looking at C3's to start with but they rode way to hard for me. I'm thrilled with my 96.

Thanks! I was overwhelmed at first when I really looked at her (it's a girl!!) I'm starting a scrapbook. Mom and Dad found all the original paperwork from when he bought it. I do have one question - I'm getting ready to order all the replacement emblems for the exterior. The CORVETTE emblem on the rear is now black. (The car is black with red leathter sport seats and red carpet). Should I order the black emblem or would red be acceptable? I'm not planning on making a show car but I do want to keep it as original as possible.

Welcome Amy. It sounds like you and hubby are starting on a great Corvette adventure. Take your time and be patient - it is an old car and you WILL - not might - WILL have setbacks and issues. As long as it's a hobby and you're having fun it can be incredibly rewarding. And as someone said above, collectively those on this forum can handle any problem you may find.
Take pictures, keep records and have fun!
PS - at some point in the future on this forum, you may be asked to choose sides between a Texan dog and a Canadian cat......aw, never mind! They'll make themselves known soon enough!

Welcome to the family! You'll have to post pics of your '89. I've always loved the black exterior with red guts. Enjoy!

Do the seats yourself and save money. If interested let me know. I did a write up on the process and am willing to help. It's not that big of a deal.
On the emblems. I would order the originals that were on the car.
If you are looking for any parts don't forget to look in the forsale section, where you can also place WTB adds yourself.
You and your husband need help. Just ask. lot's of knowledgable folks here.
Before and after pix are a rule of course.

Congrats on the vette. Like many have said there are people that know alot about these cars...questions will be answered sometimes more in depth than needed, but that is a good thing. Also pics are a must before and after if you have them...This is probably one of the better vette forums around...have fun with the project and good luck...
