Default Who insures your C4 - NJ owners ??

Hello,

I live in central NJ, 51 years young, and I got a quote with our current company Allstate for a 94 coupe with the LT1 which I will buy soon.

I said it will be a "play" car used maybe ---- 5,000 a year, garaged, etc

I got a quote for $864.00 yr for comprehensive and liability, or $494.00 yr for liability only (liability is needed by law, comprehensive no, no collision on the quotes).

So --- I thought I will ask what companies you use - prefer NJ owners - and I want to do some quote shopping online this w/e. I would like --- the comprehensive - covers theft/vandalism/something falls on the car, do I NEED it ?? most likely no as it will be in a garage and with me/in my site --- not parked at work/in a mall/etc. if I can't find a cheaper quote than $864.00 then I will just take what is required by law - liability and pay the $494.00 a year.

Thanks,
Bob

I live in Monmouth County,Marlboro, and I use State Farm.
My rates seem to be pretty close to yours. IM 46 and I have a 17 year old driver in the house, that brings mine up a few dollars.
I have a 95 convertible and I decided to take full coverage for approx. $900. What you may want to look into is 6 month coverage.
Im going to do that next year. Once I put the car away in the winter I did nothing with it except remove 30 inches of snow. Not worth having insurance when the car is under a cover for 6 months. You need to decide that for your self.

Good luck,
ac

NCM Insurance, agent Adam Boca. $250.00 per/yr full coverage. Restricted policy.

If you want to drive your car everywhere, then this will not be for you.

Thanks ---

Grundy Worldwide --- on their site they list as "Classic Car Insurance"

As "classic" is listed as 20-45 years old... the corvette I'm buying is not a classic - it's 16 years old. How old are your cars on Grundy ?

I use American Collectors Insurance - they have an office in Cherry Hill, NJ near me. You can go on their website and get a quote and play around with the deductible, etc.

They don't start charging more until you go over 5k miles per year - they also go by agreed value which is very important.

Most of the collectible insurance companies are better than the standard companies we use for daily drivers.

Your '94 IS eligible for classic car insurance and has been since 2008

http://www.americancollectors.com/

FYI - American Collectors will insure your '94 as a classic once it's 14 years old. Obviously, the cars have to be a Corvette, Mustang, sports car, etc. not an everyday type car -like a Ford Taurus or soccer mom vehicle. A friend of mine just insured his '94 C4 Convertible with them and didn't know that he could have been saving money for the last two years.

In NJ - a car is considered historic as 25 years of age and is eligible for historic plates.

Thank you --- I have a few more to check out over the weekend online.

Ohhh - so in NJ sports cars are a classic once 14 years old, so mine is a classic - 16 years old. Thank you for the clarification for NJ.

No problem, Bob.

This question comes up a lot. I checked my last post and this is what I pay.

I have American Collectors and pay $194.11 per year for the '69 (agreed value $30,500) & $309.36 for the '86 (agreed value $20,000) for 5k miles per year on each. (never come close to the mileage). In NJ that's a huge bargain! I may want to adjust the value on the '86 to bring the premium down. I checked their website and the cost doesn't go up until you go over 5k miles per year. You may want to shop around the different companies.

just got off the phone with them for my 98'- they do insure under 15 years old, depends on the car and use. Not sure they're taking my 98 yet, but it's garaged and used for leisure cruises only.

Less than $500 a year, in Cali, for both 92 Vert and 98 6 spd.

Great rates, but you can't drive it except for pleasure. I only drive 3500 mi a yr, but I want to drive it every day. Not let it sit in a dark garage

You may want to check other companies as a friend of mine has a '99 Vette and he insures if for a certain amount of mileage and for spring and summer only - which I never heard of before, but other companies are supposedly doing this as well. Wish they did this when I bought my '86 when it was a year old and I was single and paying an arm and a leg; especially when it sat all winter under a cover!

I went online to American Collectors - I can drive up to 7500 a year quote is $426.12 for 12 months with -- good coverage - coll/comp/liability like my everyday cars coverage amounts.

I also went to Grundy Worldwide --- something seems wrong --- 12 month coverage, drive 5,000 year is ---- $195.75 ???
Bodily injury/property damage liability - 300,000 with comp and collision. Uninsured/underinsured motorist statutory limit

I can't play with the numbers/add like with American Collectors. Seems like I'm not getting enough coverage with Grundy --- 195.75 ??? something is not right.

I will easily pay the 426.12 for 12 months, Grundy seems --- too low... ?

What do you thing ?

Thanks a lot,
Bob
