Default Tires, Tires, Tires??

Hey everyone,

I have not been on a long time but it is now time to get tires for the '89 vette. I do have stock rims. I am not looking to break the bank but would like some decent tires. I also do not want them to wear out in a year. Any ideas/suggestions?

As always thanks for any input!!!!!

It really depends on what you mostly use the car for, but for everyday driving, the best tire for the $$$ is the Kumho Ecsta IMHO. I had them on my 84 for several years, and just put a set on my 95. They do everything I want them to do for half the money of some of the other stuff on the market.

I have Sumitomo tires on mine. Good price and seem to perform well. I just do normal driving, no racing.

I recently put these Fierce UHP tires and love them. Made by Kelly I think.

I run Sumi HTRz's..

Got em from tire rack, and had em send to a local "tire kingdom". Got a discount on mounting because of tire rack as well...

So far, I like em....

Hope this helps

I bought Riken raptors 275/40/17 for my 90, they were 110.00 a tire. Seem ok to me and have a nice tread pattern.

I also have these tires on my '91 coupé and really like them. And the thing that is really messed up about this, my local Chevy dealer had the best price in the area PLUS I got a $50 rebate from BFG!

They are great in the rain too. However, when its cold or icy...not so much.

That being said I have them on my 95 (I've had a couple sets of them in 17 inch sizes and now on a split 17 front 18 rear) and they handle great and hold up well during high speed long distance driving too.

I have the Kumho's on my 88 and they are great for everyday driving, but when it's below 50° they can become quite dangerous. Your profile doesn't give your location, but if you are in the northern half of the country and don't do autocrossing or spend time on the track, you might want to consider a more all-season tire to safely extend your driving season to the colder months.

....with the guys above.
When I was purchasing them I wasn't sure if I should go so cheap.
But I have no regrets.
They ride as good as my prior BFG's that were $1000.

Take a look at the Nitto 555's. a good tire for the money, and they are quiet.

The wheels are 18" the tires are a lower aspect ratio so the diameter is still about the same as stock
Here's some pics from the swap (I mounted and balanced the tires on the wheels myself and then installed them on the car....since I do my own work I use the tire rack)

The '92 vert has Kumho XS's 275-40-17F/315-35-17R. Awesome dry tires, just don't push it in the rain.

The '90 has Kumho V710's 315-35-17's all the way around. OK...they're the race tires and NEVER see rain.
