Default C4 corvettes and automatic car wash

I saw something on my 87 that said that it might get damage if taken to an automatic car wash with the spare tire on is this true??

Not sure about that, but my interior would get damaged on my 87. On an automatic carwash, I'd get soaked.

I'm thinking the main concern is that the car rides so low that you're risking under carage damage from the hooks or whatever grabs your car and whatnot.

I would get soaked too. I think thats why corvettes don't go out in the rain. Its not that we don't want water spots, we want to stay dry inside.

I've had mine out in the rain. It does ok in the rain, but the pressure of an automatic wash would blow right past that old weatherstrip.

If any of our cars except for the later C4s still have the original factory paint please don't take it through an automatic car wash. 20 years ago I would take my 89 Formula through an auto wash every time I filled up at Exxon(back then it was free) and the clear coat on my hood was gone within 4 years.

Anybody that drives their Vette through an automatic carwash should be bitch-slapped.

I take mine through the car wash all the time and have no problems at all. I'm too old to wash it by hand...

Have you ever looked at the walls in the touchless car washes?
All the paint is gone....
So what do you think it's doing to the paint on your car...
I always light spray mine and to all the elbow work myself.

I dont believe my tires would fit in the track of a carwash, my suburban barely fits.

They will be....by the high pressure jets of water racing past the old rotted weatherstripping.

I don't treasure scratches from the automatic washes. Black is a beech.

No troubles with the brush-less car wash type. Go for it! Oh yeah, don't use the ones with the tire platform.

I went to one today just to see what the fuss is about plus some punk kid flung some clear soda or water all over the car and i needed a quick fix. No rails or watever, just drive in and wait. I learned I need to replace some of my weatherstripping hehe but nothing crazy. ill stick with the light spraydown and waxing.
