Trying to convince someone to buy a Corvette over a Mustang
Ok so I have a cousin who is thinking about buying a new Mustang. He explains why he is thinking about a Mustang though, " I have a buddy who works at Ford coporate and can get me a great deal. A BD alumnus actually. I'll hear your argument, though..."
I would like to hear some input of whether to get either one. Anybody have any input?

I'd give reasonable consideration to next years mustang with the 400 hp coyote 5.0 or even the hi-tech 300hp v6 for a commuter. Otherwise, forget it. I will say that a vette is a compromise in utility and in ground clearance.

If he doesn't feel it just looking at a Corvette, you have already lost him.
Don't talk him into something he'll resent (or whatever)
Let him get the pony. You roll the Corvette.
That way you're both happy!

A car is a car, you buy what you like. Some people like Corvette's, some people like Mustang's and others like P.O.S. Toyota's (). Different people like different things. Not everyone likes Corvettes, but then I don't need everyone to like my car for me to enjoy it! I bought it cus I enjoy it, not to impress others.

If it's a 201- Mustang, not bad. It's acceptable. But are you trying to get him to get a C4 instead? If so, tell him for $10k you can get one in near perfect condition with 53k miles, and with the probably $20k you'd be saving on the 'stang, you could make it a hella beast. Plus, insurance, coolness, etc.

I wanted all Corvette owners perspectives, but since I usually just hang around the C4 part on this forum I decided to post it here. It doesn't necessarily mean that I think he should get a C4 but I guess the best bang for his buck and whatever generation suits him best. I hope that makes more since...

I'm not a blue oval basher, had a # of classic stangs & a '00 GT that used the body as a suspension component. It needed the 3 point monte carlo bar in the engine bay to tie the shock towers to the firewall + the lower main cross member needed reinforcement & tie bars back to the body. The darn thing felt like I was driving a wet noodle & this was a zero rust southern car. There were plenty of other issues including a necessary brake upgrade to Cobra brakes.
The new generation V8 Stangs tip the scales at 3900+ lbs.
They are also nose heavy.
Cannot speak for the "new" 5.0 motor, don't know & don't care.
I drove my buds 06 Stang GT. Nice car but a ho hum ride, about a step above boring
IMHO my 90 Vette is twice the car the 00 Stang is even though its ten years older. Same goes for the 89 Vette the Mrs. drove.

We did get the new F150 4X4's in....driving those a lot lately. Amazingly quiet inside...not just for a truck...quiet period.
I do like the '10 Mustang though...but I think the aforementioned hookah smoker designed the tail lights on it. They have the retro look down until you walk around behind the car....and I'm not seeing the ponycar heritage. The sequential turn signals are a nice touch.
I stop at 7-11 every day for my massive dose of aspartame....and the other day the kid behind the counter says "must be nice to drive a different car all the time". He caught me on a day when I'd been sitting in mind numbing meetings for 6 hours, and I told him he can have the car and the job anytime he wants it
