Default PSA: Clean your radiator!

So I know there are a few folks who have posted that their car is overheating/running hot. I pulled my radiator out today...lots of junk, and I hadn't had any overheating issues. So lesson for today: Clean out your radiator/AC condensor and your issues may be solved. Some pics:

Nice! Did it solve your problem? Also, was it hard getting the fiberglass cover thingy off (the one under the intake)?

About what mine looked like. C4's are road vacuums, and draw debris up like nobodys business. Cleaning mine dropped running temps by about 15 degrees. My car runs at 190-200 in the summer now.

Great pics Kangi

previous owner did the radiator, but I noticed the a/c condenser could use a little attention before summertime comes.

Pretty simple actually, just removed the fan and shroud and lifted right out(after disconnecting the hoses and lines of course).

Nice! Its a good feeling when you do something simple to fix something and dont encounter any problems!

I had to "gently" wash my radiator and condenser with a pressure washer to keep my car from overheating, even though it looked clean. You would not believe the dog hair, sand, etc. that came out of the fins.

Have one of the side tanks off and have a flat bar run though each tube. Sometimes, the insides can be clogged too. Made incredible difference with mine.

Do the side tanks just pop off or are they soldered? Is this a DYI project or should it be taken to a radiator shop?

I believe I've read somewhere that the radiator isn't really designed for the tanks to be taken off. But I'm sure you can do it. You'd also have to hope once you get the tanks back on, that they don't leak.

I had called a shop once just to ask about if they rod out radiators. They told me they don't really do that anymore as it is more cost effective to just replace it.

It sure would suck if you spent all that money to get the radiator rodded out, then for it to just start leaking a few months later.

Being as close to the beach as I am, my radiator was full of sand but cleaned up real well.

Mine actually wasn't too bad when I replacement my radiator last year. Some grass and leafs but I used to check it weekly for plastic bags and paper. Since I've gotten my big mouth air dam, I don't scoop up any of that crap any more. Not even plastic bags.
