87 speedometer doesn't work help

I just got this Vet and the speedometer doesn't work but odometer does. Guy said it worked the last time he drove it. Ya Right, ran out of gas on the test drive too. No numbers and LCD doesn't move. It's lit up thou, is it normal to be lit different than the tack? Where do I start? Speed sensor or dash or??

If the display hasn't been gone through (redone, overhauled, etc) it is probably due. My display was overhauled after about 15 years. The cost of a LCD redo was around $500. the last time I had it done. The "starwars" display was not one of GM's better ideas in my opinion.

Then order a new or rebuilt one. Also guys part c4's here regularly

I think member HOLESHOT is selling an analog version for those years..

Or just buy the LCD panels for $99 each and replace them yourself. That's what I did, and it was so easy with the instructions they sent.

Nothing worked on my dash when I bought the car, but after replacing the panels EVERYTHING WORKS including the fuel gauge!
