Default Son of a B-"Dual Mass Flywheel"-itch

For nearly three months I looked all over for a DFM. I searched the CF, DC, CAC, Smokin Vettes, I used Google, yahoo, MSN, I called every major auto part, I tried the dealer, GMpartsdirect and all gave me hope then the ultimate line..."it's discontinued or we can put it on back order"

As few of you may remember, I asked about the SMF, many of you mentioned about the rattling but the only one that was able to explain to me what the rattle was "96GS#007". I was not looking forward the noise/rattle so I kept searching for the DMF.

A week ago, I crossed reference with a company that sells to Pep Boys. I could buy the DFM from Pep Boys for $1,400+ but I noticed the company name was on their web site. I did a search, and the company had it on stock. Using the part number, did a google search and..BAM!

www.RockAuto.com Part Num. 04641. TOTAL: $1,127.27 shipped

The DMF got home today

Yes, it is expensive but I would not live with the rattle noise.

Keeping in mind my car is pretty loud (see youtube vids) I just got a SPEC Stage 2+ clutch and 13lb alum. flywheel and I can't heardly hear anything (rattling noise) for what it's worth.

Glad you got what you wanted.

I needed to go to a twin disk with the new engine.

Would this fit a 1990 Corvette six speed that is stock? What is the brand and part number, and also where can I buy it?
Thanks Ed

I bought an OEM LUK flywheel clutch repo kit last year for my 94 from Gripforce.
I paid $990 for the kit.
Motherclutcherz also had the kits for about the same price.

Yes:

Here...

From what I've heard from others that have made the switch to a single mass FW, it is the ZF transmission that makes all the noise. The ZF has huge gears in it and the angles that they are cut make noise when the slack between them is jogged back and forth when coupled to a non-damped flywheel. The dual mass FW acts just like the harmonic damper on the front of the engine and softens the crank shaft pulsations so the gears don't accelerate and decelerate quickly and bang back and forth. Also the engagement and drive-ability of the light weight FWs is said to be somewhat jerky off the line trading smoothness for quick rev-ability. I've heard the super light Aluminum FW's are the worst for noise and the steel ones vary depending on the acoustic tolerance of the driver. Some say it isn't a big deal considering the price difference, and others say it was the worst mistake they ever made and will go back to a dual mass as soon as they can.
(Yeah, I can't decide either)
