Ten reasons why I like my C4

I have an 84, first year of " the god awful C4's". First and foremost I take statements like that with two grains of salt. It's mine and its paid for, it gives me pleasure to drive it, and for the most part it has been trouble free. It may be the baby of the HP power plants, but if I need to kick it, it gives me enough snort to do what I want.. So I say if you don't like it F***K off..

My reasons for my 96:
1. Chevy 350 small block - classic engine design and basically bullet proof
2. Excellent gas mileage
3. Excellent performance
4. American sports car
5. Handles like it's on rails
6. Muscular body design, head turning
7. Excellent breaking
8. Removable top
Can't think of 9 or 10 at the moment.

Reasons I like my 86 Vert:
1. It's my first Corvette
2. I have always wanted one since I was a kid and the 84's came out
3. It was affordable
4. Most people think it cost a LOT more than it really did
5. It's red
6. It's a convertible
7. It handles great
8. It has plenty of power
9. Chicks dig it
10. It's a blast to drive
What more could you want? Plus, I don't care what anyone else thinks...I love my C4!

I luv 'em all!
I luv all Vettes - a car nut first, and a Vette nut second allows me to appreciate anyone's 4-wheel "labor or love"...yep...even Moostangs!
P.
- I love the styling,
- the "cockpit" feel behind the wheel
- LOVE the clamshell! (especially when modding...which is often enough!)
- I like the way it handles!
- The LT5 is a very special power plant (If I have to explain...you just wouldn't understand) And, I liked the LT1's overall characteristics (all engines should have such a broad, FLAT torque curve, I'm tellin ya!)
- I like the ZF trans - shifts like silk!
- It gives me a perma-grin. Driving it, washing it, thinking about it...and I'm in my "happy place"
- It does get good gas mileage, but since it is a weekend warrior - that really doesn't play into it
- Did I mention I love the styling??

Not been here as much lately, partley because of bashing.
If someone needs info about what to buy or consider buying in a C4, some LT1 and LT4 people come swooping in and trash every year except their's. It's just not worth having if you don't have an LT1 or 4.
Now I know this is NOT the case for most of 1 & 4 people in this forum there are some really nice guy's ready to give good advice and help.
It's just those special people. They bash earlier years like C5 people bash all C4's.
Sorry just my 2 cents.

The L98 definetly has a bit more grunt than the LT1 but the LT1 is quite a bit faster. That is not bashing either one of them. I would buy another L98 or LT1 in a heartbeat!!

When I bought my 93 the early C4s weren't even a consideration but after being on the forum I really have a new found appreciation for them. There are a number of early C4s here that are beautiful and anyone in their right mind should be proud to own. I know some of the C5 & 6 guys think my car is a old piece of crap but I don't give a rats *** what anyone else thinks, I like it every time I drive it . It doesn't matter what year it is or even what it looks like ,if it's fun to drive and puts that big grin on your face every time you get behind the wheel then it's a good vette.

I have always wanted a Corvette as long as I can remember. Years of saving and an awesome wife allowed me to buy my dream car last summer, my 95 6-speed. It makes me smile when I think about it. It makes me smile when I drive it. I love how it drives, looks, sounds. There's nothing I don't like about it. I even enjoy wrenching on it. I plan to keep it forever and then one of my kids can have it if they want it when I can no longer get in and out of the cockpit.
Thanks for this thread Mike.

I agree with everybodies top 10 list. I am sure that like me, everyone is sick over the downturn/future of GM. Maybe that should be number 11 on everybodies list....
11) With GM in the crapper the value of my C4 is rising!

Given that prior to purchasing my 95 (last year) I had only had (and still have) one or another C2, my list here is what my motiviation was to purchase the car:
1. My 95 is a thoroughly modern Corvette and very different than the previous generations of Corvettes. When I bought my 95 I was looking for a C4/5/6. There seems to be a divide between the older cars C1/2/3 and the later Corvettes and having had C2s since 1981, I wanted to try a "newer" Corvette. I must admit that I would not have purchased anything other than a ZR-1 or the later Z06s as I wanted the best performance that generation had to offer.
2. The LT5 engine in my ZR-1 is the best looking engine that Chevrolet EVER put in a Corvette - even more impressive even than my 67 435HP engine.
3. I love the 94-96 Sport seats with its Connolly leather (a not very well known fact). They are comfortable, supportive, and attractive without being confining.
4. I love the cockpit feel to the car and in combination with the seats makes me feel one with the car when I am driving it.
5. I love the wide rear of the ZR-1 with its wide stance and aggressive rubber suggesting supercar performance.
6. Looks aside, I love the fact that the LT-5 is the only DOHC engine ever put into a Corvette. And I love the rev happy feel to the motor. To be honest here, the LT-5 is no more rev-capable than my 435HP 67. In fact both cars feel very similar from an acceleration standpoint. I would guess that the feeling of ultra-high revving ability of the LT-5 to most people is due to the 20 or so years of low revving Corvettes. I guess I always had that capability so the revving ability of the LT-5 didn't seem to be "new" to me. Still, I do love the sound and feel of that motor as it climbs toward 7000 rpm.
7. The C4 is as also not as common a car these days as the C5/C6s so you won't find yourself seeing an identical car too often. And it will happen even less often with the ZR-1.
8. I love the fact that I can have performance (LT5) with comfort (air-conditioning). But hey, you couldn't get air-conditioning with a 67 435 so this is just a new feature to me. Maybe this benefit could have been found in any newer Corvette and is not specific to just C4s or my car in particular, but I still like it.
9. Not a purchase consideration, but it's nice that the C4s can get collector insurance given that they are over 10 years old. Can't get that with any Z06 (Well, except the 63s )
10. Using some aircraft analogies with how I view the overall C4 styling and performance mix, my C2 reminds me of a WW2 P47. Solid and tough, but not modern. The C5/6 cars remind me of F16/F15s respectively. Modern and purposeful. The C4s seem like F104 Starfighters with no compromises and a look of orbit capable speed.
