whats your opinion on a good tire for my 1990
I don't plan on aggresively driving this car in any manner so whats one of the cheaper alternatives for me? This car is just going to be mainly a commuter car but I do want it to be able to corner somewhat well & have a decent ride. Road/tire noise is another thing I don't want a lot of as well.
I think it would have originally came with 275/40/17 tires.

I ended up using Falken GRB451 tires in the same size you mention. I like them and after driving 2 seperate 500 mile round trippers in the past month I really like them. Cant give you opinion on wet driving though, didnt encounter it. I purchased the tires 2 years ago, I think they are called GRB 452 now.
Oh, btw, one of the reasons I bought them was because of price.

Nexen N3000 gets good reviews and is $120 in my area. I've got one on my 89. And I plan on putting another one on the other side. I had a blow out a year ago and was out of town. This was what they had in stock. Seems fine to me.

I have the economical choice or my friend has a set of Nitto or something like that but not sure the model of them for 400 bucks. he took them off his car when he put the zr1 style 17x11 combination on his car. he was telling me these nitto tires have like 5k miles on them. He also says he remember paying like 180 a tire for them or something like that.
would the nitto's be a better choice?

+1 on the Cooper Zeon tires. The best tire for the $ in my opinion. I also have a 1990 convertible and the road noise is unnoticeable - even with the top down. The handle curves great and wear exceptionally well. They were way less expensive than Firestone Firehawks and BFG that I had before. I only drove then in the rain one time (got caught) and they wicked the water as well as any wide 40 series tire. Good luck with your choice. My money is on the Zeon.

After looking around for awhile I decided to put Falken ZE-502 on my
89 coupe The reviews were mixed but most of the vette owners who used the tire rated it 5 stars. I seen them as low as 84.00 ea online although I ended up getting them at Plaza Tire by my house for slightly more.
So far I have really noticed a big difference in these tires from the old ones( which were pretty worn).
Great handling and No road noise. Will keep you posted.

Sumitomos seem to be about the cheapest you can get. The folks who have them seem to be pleased. Any tire in 275/40-17 is going to corner somewhat well. You won't get a new tire in that size and it'll corner worse than a family sedan or something.

What is your opinion on having mixed tires? On my 89 they were all Hankook Ventus Sport K104. A year ago or so one of the tires blew on the interstate. So, I had a shop replace the tire with what they had, and it was a Nexen N3000.
Recently, I go to looking and noticed the other tire needs to be replaced. Though the other two Hankook's still have tread left, so I'm not gonna replace them.
So, after the rotation, that would mean two Hankook's in the rear, one Nexen N3000 in the front. And the other one I'm undecided. I may just go with the Nexen N3000. So, that would be Nexen in the front and Hankook in the rear.
Or I could put a Hankook in the front beside the Nexen with Hankook in the rear.
Or just go with a different brand which would mean 3 different brands on the car.
