Default L98 VS LS1

A few of my friends said that the LS1 in some of the newer style camaros would give the L98 corvette a decent race ....if not beat it.:bs does anyone haveany info on this? I mean, ive been in both...and i would have to say that the L98 had alot more torgue then the camaro.

They are completely right. :) I suppose I should add to that huh? :)

I've raced/beaten the Z28 LT1 camaros at the strip, but a LS1 is a whole other story. You may get them out of the whole if you do not spin, but anything past 55mph and you are toast.

Agree with Scorp.. you may get them from stop light to stop light, but after that you'll see tail lights. :)

isnt the camaro heavier then the vette though? i mean...i would of fiugured that the vette would have some chance....if it raced a ls1 with an auto and the vette had a sticj

If the race was stoplight to stoplight the L98 might have a chance, over 50-60, like Scorp said, no way. THe F-body LS1's have just as many ponies as C5's. The factory just under-estimates them.

Head over to NED with us this year and watch them. They run neck and neck (sometimes beat) all the C5s stock for stock with equal drivers.

The LS1 camaro/firechicken will humuliate an L98. Low-flat-13's? Even a mustang magazine hit the high 12's in a STOCK ls1 camaro.. The best time I've seen for an L98 is very low 14's or maybe a high 13. That's about .8-1 second of difference. That's a murder. I've stayed even with LT1 camaros almost all the way through first gear, but the LS1 cars just plain murder me...
We're talking 100+hp difference here.

I believe I've seen many on the forum who have posted runs deep into the 13s with an L98. If I remember correctly Scorp ran a 13.4x last year. That being said, an LS1 f-body will roast an L98 vette.

Yes, a 13.48 @ 101.11, but the car is not completely stock. Nothing major at all is done to it, but still. It was a perfect weather, perfect track condition, and perfect driving day. That only happens once in a blue moon. :)

Since it will probably be asked....

-Flowmasters
-Main Cat Delete
-Short Shifter
-K&N Filter & Open Airlid
-Cutback Sparkplug Electrodes
-AIR Pump Delete
-Accel Spark Module
-MSD Superconductor 8.5mm Wires

Run on street tires and street pressures of 33psi rear and 35psi front. I still don't expect to beat an LS1 unless the driver is less than adequate.

Yeah, I know that your run is not the norm for an L98, but it still gives the rest of us L98 guys a little glimmer of hope that we can run that good under the right conditions

Yep, have race many LS1 F-body in my 1991 stock L98 with auto trans, 2.59 rear. Depending on how much of a jump i got on them at the light. they would slowly start passing me anywhere from 60-90mph. At least i made them sweat bullets from leaving so fast until they could caught up..
That's in the 1/4 but in autox it really did not matter much :D
Tok my losses back then and some wins. Now with my LT4 it's a whole notha ball game  :D

I know we're no in the Tech Section but as LT-1 Vs. LS-1 what the beef there? I mean Mod Vs. Mod to each one who comes out on top?
And by what I mean by Mods is that anything goes........

If you say simple mod for mod and leave out the $ factor; I believe the LS1 will win out. Have you seen the #s they throw down with simple head/cam packages? Incredible.

They are starting with more HP then us to begin with... Mean Green 2000 on these forums has a C5 vert, all that is done to it is cat back, cold air induction and a power programmer... the car has ran a best of 12.56 on stock EMT's. Aint happening on any LT-1 or L98.
