Hey 92 Ragtop,
I see you were out my way in Fort Langley. We keep our Dragon Boat
equipment in that old garage. Small world.
This is the place to be Friday nights as everyone brings out their
hot cars. Tim Hortons behind the Langley casino is where you can
show off your ride. Any similar spots in town?

My working drawing....
mounting brackets.....
lower part of frame. Note that you have to bend the 3/8" rod in order to can tthe screen backwards a bit, to avoid your seatback hitting the screen when reclining or moving the seat to the back.

Yes, there are no issues with putting the top up or down with the screen in place. The only "problem" is that you can't store the screen in the rear compartment with out risking some scratch damage to the plexi. Also, if your seat is way back, you don't want to recline it as well because the seat back may contact the screen.

i love this thing!!! great job. and your drawing is great too - a design engineer by any chance? anyways wondering if i could bother you for a couple more photos of the screen installed in the hardtop locations. i have an 89 vert with a removable hardtop and know the area that you are talking about but would like to see it all. i would love to build this up!!

I'm amazed and flattered that there is so much interest in this project. Thanks for all the compliments. Anyone with reasonable mechanical skills and access to a MIG welder should be able to fabricate one of these. One important tip when making the frame is to weld the posts to the verticals first. Then, set these into both body brackets which you have bolted into the mounting holes. Lastly, fit and mark the position of the horizontal piece of the frame before welding it up. The posts and the tubes have to be parallel to each other or they will bind when trying to install the screen.
I cut the plexi with a bandsaw, rounded the edge with a router and then sanded, wet-sanded, and polished the edge. I learned later that you can also do flame polishing, but you'd have to ask a plastics shop how to do that.
For those of you who asked for some more photos and details.......
