Default oil pressure question L98

what is the safe threshold for the oil pressure gauge? i've noticed lately that my gauge jumps around a lot in relation to my RPMs.

this is average. at idle it'll drop down a little, and at higher RPM it'll jump up to around 60 (estimate as it only shows 0 & 80).

while we're at it, my temp gauges never get much higher than in the pic shown. what are the dangerous levels on those as well? thanks for the help guys.

Spec from the manual is about 55-60psi at warm cruising speeds, and about half of that at idle.

Mine runs about 45 cold idle, dropping to the high 20s/low 30s at hot idle. The rule is that you will have to have 10psi per 1000rpm.

The oil weight you run makes a small difference, but if youre in this range youre golden.

awesome, thank you.

the car has been in my family since it was new, but i've only put about 1000 miles on it since i've had it. first noticed the pressure gauge dancing around yesterday, and got worried.

Sorry to bring this thread up from the dead but I have a similiar question. I finally got around to fixing the oil pressure guage on my car. It's never worked since I bought it!

Sitting at idle its at about 50psi, and when crusing its about 60psi.
At hot idle my car is still at 45-50psi. Is there somthing wrong? The engine was rebuilt a few years ago and is packing much more power then stock. Would this make a difference? Thanks!

Only way to prove if gauge is acurate is to temp hook up a mech gauge and see if it reads the same
