Default What C4 to buy???

Hi, I spend most of my time in the C3 and C5 sections. I have been looking at the C4's lately but don't know much about them. What years are good bargains? What years would you avoid? What should I expect to pay? Are ZR1's worth the extra $$? I know those are broad questions the same ones get asked in the other sections all the time. But some general ideas and advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

The best way to help decide what you want to buy is to drive them. Just be careful about driving a ZR-1.

Your kidding right? Well heres my advise buy the best you can afford. The 96 was touted as the best of the generation as it was the last of the C4 run and the newest but test drive a ZR-1 and see how you feel about it.

Just depends how deep your wallet is, but get the newest & best you can. The ZR1 is a whole different animal. But you can't beat a C4 as a driver for the money

Get what you like but I feel that the 95 and 96 models are generally better as they have had all the years that came before them to work out the bugs. That's my opinion.

A ZR1 will cost you allot more than a 96...is 85HP worth the extra cash, maybe. I agree with others, go drive and see what one you like. Prices are different around the country, I would use KBB/NADA... for guides. At this time I believe it to be a buyers market so if you look I'm sure you will find one you like and get a good deal on it.

I would lean towards a heavily modified sleeper. Other peoples money spent on mods can be bought at bargain prices. Just do the appropriate homework and have it inspected by a reputable mechanic to insure the work done is solid and it isn't roughly abused.

I don't think anyone can tell you what your money is worth. What do you intend to do with the car? What do you want the car to be able to do? How much are you comfortable with spending? Which of the cars really "do it" for you?

IMHO I'd buy a C4 with a freshest interior with the best exterior paint I could find...then blow a butt load of money on building a new high HP power plant for it.

I agree with the interior and exterior. Are there computer issues (tuning software changes) similiar to the C5 when changes are made to the motor heads/cam etc. Are these a headache?

Yes a ZR-1 is worth every penny. I'd rate them as follows.

1- Any ZR1
2- 96 Grandsport Z51
3- Any LT4
4- LT1- Z07
5- Any Z51

Hey Rudy,

Thinking about taking a ride on the C4 side? You'll never be able to mention it on OT.

What is on your "must-have" list?

Think all C4s are pretty much the same? Not.

Digi-dash or analog gauges? 16 or 17" wheels. Air bag a must? ABS? Automatic/Doug Nash 4+3 or ZF6 speed? Crossfire/L98/LT1/LT4/LT5? Is there a particular color you like? Vert or coupe? Z51/52? Early body style or late?

At least there aren't the hidden rust issues of looking for a C3.

You need to drive as many different C4s as you can before you make up your mind, so you can populate your "must-have" list.

You can find a really nice one with less than 80k miles on it for under $10k if you do your homework here first.

Good Luck!

Mark

Ever heard of an Opti-spark?

Just something else to consider when buying a C4.
