85 Vette vs. 02 F250 7.3L Powerstroke
Wondering what you guys think. Gonna take it to the track of course. The truck has a mild chip in it. My vette is mostly stock, k&n with open air lid and manifold back 2.25 inch exhaust no cats free flowing muFflers, bosch iii style injectors, and an accel supercoil with a new cap and rotor.

Just look it up on Google.
250@2,600 RPM w/automatic and 505@1,600RPM w/automatic
275@2,800 RPM w/manual and 525@1,600 RPM w/manual
1/4 mile, elapsed time 17.92 sec
1/4 mile, trap speed 79.26 mph
You will run much much faster.

They have very good acceleration to a point. 0-30 might be fairly close, but you will blow right past him. Is it possible to mod it to beat your Vette, absolutely, but it requires more than a tune. Those trucks are made to move buildings, not race sports cars.
Those trucks are HEAVY, so it takes much more than 505 ftq and 250 hp to take you. Now if this motor could rev to 6k, then the race might be more interesting.

Yes it probably weighs something like twice your car, 6500 pounds? I will bet one zillion bucks that you win.

I had one roast me in my LT-1 the other day. Sounded mean as hell. A mild chip in a turbo diesel can equal big numbers. He was pretty stoaked and I gotta say I was impressed as hell getting taken by a big truck (crew cab dually). I gave him a big Take'm to the track, but don't be surprised when you are watching his tailgate going down the track.
Say, the 7.3 is the V-10 isn't it? If so, you got him.

Now if someone double stacks tunes, turns up the boost, or does some other types of wild modification, the Vette can be history.

With 150 more HP it should run something like a 14.7 which you would still beat.

Don't EVER EVER underestimate the power that a turbo diesel can put down. I had a friend with a Cummins Ram in college and it was an absolute blast to smoke the cocky guys in their Camaros, Mustangs, and ESPECIALLY Vettes. Even though I owned one it was hilarious to watch them when they looked at the time slips and saw how bad they just got beat by a huge 2500 diesel. Yes, this was at the track.
EDIT: If you are one of those guys that doesn't believe it, go to youtube or anywhere else and look up the vids of diesel trucks at the track.

Seems to me that a few Vette owners may need to learn how to drive them. Getting smoked by a 4X4 diesel truck especially since they weigh about 2 times as much? I can't see it even with all the mods on those heavy trucks, I spend alot of time at the track watching many diesels trucks run. Many of them are powerful, look good and are definitely loud but never fast enough to out run a Vette. I'd say if it did get beat by one of those heavy monsters, the Vette had an inexperienced driver or the car just was not running correctly. Remember that the Vette was built to handle well and it does an exceptional job as well as being fast. What would be hilarious would be to see one of those trucks on a road course with a Vette. Then who would always come out ahead?

It takes a whopping 14.XX to beat a stock 85 Vette. There are a whole lot of 4x4 diesels that can do that no problem.
The guys saying take it to a road course... seriously? WTF kind of argument is that? Why not take it to the mud pit? That has nothing to do with the original question.

Surprised no one has brought up aerodynamic drag. A truck has a very high drag coefficient to overcome vs a Vette or any 80's on car for that matter. But I actually wonder if this is the same twitter that axk about a Honda S2000 vs a 85 Vette under a different name?
