Best wax to use on my 89

Re: Best wax to use on my 89 (cadawg)
Mothers three step...I have used it for years on my '87....cleaner, glaze, liquid wax. Does a tremendous job of elminating those tiny spider web swirl marks you can see in bright direct sun or at night under parking lot lights. A bit of work, but well worth the effort. ;)

Re: Best wax to use on my 89 (Vette Ed)
I have a question about zaino. I read somewhere that polymer polishes are no good for cars because the polymers bind to each other and prevent the paint form expanding and contracting as the surface temp changes. Even though the expansion/contraction is so slight, the polymer chain preventing this from happening will cause the paint to eventuallly crack, that's why wax was recommended, because it will move with the paint. Any experience with this?

Ok I found the thread I was referring to earlier. Someone said the same thing as you said about polymers.
Your body shop guy is living in the past and sort of mis-informed. Way back 20 and 30 years ago, all there was was wax, not all that durable and filled with oils for the shine. Many car wax companies began trying to develop something that would lay down a clear barrier or film on paint that did not rely on oils like wax does. What these companies actually did was create a substance (usually an acrylic layer) that was almost too durable that almost created another layer of paint, these layers flaked off, did not allow the paint to breath and turned yellow. Many paint jobs where ruined by the almost experimental products and many went out of business quickly. This is why you NEVER!!!!!!! hear about acrylics in auto wax and polish now days, doing so would be death to sales of the product. What the body shop guy is doing is confusing modern synthetic paint technology like Zaino has with poor acrylics of 20 years ago.

Sal Zaino is a custom auto painter, he knows what he is doing.
