Hi all,
i am new to the forum and even though i havent purchased a vette yet that doesn`t mean i couldnt become a member correct? Well i am going to be in the hunt for a c4 very soon.Probably right aorund tax return time.I seen a nice 87 for sale for 3500.00 which is in my prce range and the only real thing is its red.I am after something like a silver or a blue.I had a oppertunity to get a 85 that was a bronze color for 2900.00 but i got cold feet.I currently got a 1980 chevy c10 stepside i`m restomodding with a big block and all new NOS sheetmetal.And a 1970 mercury cougar convertible thats a factory triple white and its 1 of 24 ever produced. I love the lines and the overall looks of the c4 model and cant wait to post here m purchase of a c4.What year i get i don`t know but i`ll be happy to just finally get 1. What i`m looking to do is add to my car collection and i`m not selling any of the 2 i got.But my ex g/f in 99 had a 94 yellow corvette that had the 2 red add on stripes on the left front fender, and a buddy of mine`s g/f had a 89 black vette he totally redid over from front to back. And i use to work in a chevy dealership in 1993 that i took a brand new at the time 1994 vette to deliver and was fantastic.So i like the c5s as a co worker has a 2002 but i prefer the c4 more.

Thanks for the welcome Cant wait to get my dream ride.Even if its a 84-90 i`m planning on upgrading the 91-6 front n rear bumpers to it and wheels.I`m a guy that likes stock looks i`m really not into the highly modified cars.

Why not just get a '91? It's basically got the same engine (L98) as the earlier ones but has the newer body pieces.
I'd recommend getting a copy of the Corvette Black Book. It's got all the detalis, options, model differences and everything you should need to know to help you decide.

Just remember that if you pay less than 5K for any C4, it will undoubtedly need some work. Maybe a lot, maybe a little. Just be prepared to spend some money after the acquisition.

You'll find out just what a madness this can be after you get your dream ride. Lots of good deals out there now and I would think they will get even better with this economy the way it is going. Shop around. Good luck with your hunt!

Welcome.One initial word of advice, buy the newest you can afford. These things can and will become very deep money pits if you let them. The idea of buying old/cheap and "fixing it up" can be an expensive operation.

Welcome to the forum. Just like what the other members said,don't buy something because it's cheap. In the the long run it's more cost effective to buy a car in good shape for more money than to buy a cheap car and have to dump alot of money into it for parts. Then you would have a car that you had put more money than the first that would be never worth what you put in it.

Do your homework. This is the best time of year to buy a Corvette.

The general rule of thumb with C4s is to buy the newest car with the lowest miles you can afford.

Your all right about the CHEAP thing, i seen a real nice 95 polo green for 12k OBO .But if its a bit cheaper i can take my time an put it back together.I dont want a salvaged title car if i decide to sell it it be hard to. But the black book thing sounds pretty interesting.I think i seen it in the corvette central catalog.But ever since i was young i had some of the c3 shirts and always wanted a vette.Well i will sooner or later(hopefully sooner) get my vette. But i`m glad to be a part of this great forum and look forwardto picking your brains if i come across any problems in the process. I agree there money pits but any classic car is a money pit. To give you a example my 70 convertible i have had for 19 years now and i got atround 25k invested into it and i only put 13k miles on it in 19 years, only 5k of the miles since 1991.Recently this year i fixed all the probems i knew about and that there alone was over 5k. But its done for now till i get the body redone then for now its finished.But i am siched to get 1.I`m on craigslist daily and ebay and perhaps 1 here may be of interest and i may buy 1 from a fellow member here.

I never had anything against a 84-90. I said even if it is a 84-90 i`ll upgrade it to the 91-6 style. Always liked the c4 body.I was offered from 1 of my other forums a 96 thats got 34k on the odometer and he is going to sell it this spring.I asked for pictures and hopefully i get them and i`ll bring them here for your viewing and opinons.

OPINONS please he is planning on holding onto it for me till spring so its in michigan and i asked him his lowest price since i dont want to lowball him on it.

Hello all,
just to show ya what kind of person i am here are some pics of a truck i`m restoring for my mother and i`m doing all the spending. Its a 1980 chevy c10.




Just to show ya how far i`m taking it look at the firewall, i recently removed the metal dash piece and finished up the part of the firewall by the master cylinder, the 2 corners of the cab i did by taking out the places where the old 198-7 hood hinges sat and put in the 2 corners where the 1973-80 corners are.The cab is from a 1985 but i`m converting it back to a `973-`980 style.

The truck started off as a cab and a bare frame and so far i couldnt tell you how much work i got into the truck as well as the cougar and the wagon. I got 3 projects going on currently and the taking on of a corvette that needs some tlc is something i`m aware of.I know like a oldsaying from a friend but with a twist good corvettes arent cheap cheap corvettes arent good but if you take your time and slowly put one together the results are worth its weight in gold.If i buy a 84-90 and buy it cheap and say i put oh 4-5k into it i`ll look at the before and the after and be proud of my hard work.Truthfully if you take a classic car thats done but you dont like the color and then you tear inot it an do your own taste to it it be costing a fortune then starting with a bare body, put all the ideas you want into it, build the motor you want, paint it the color you want and the color interior you want then you be more pleased then buying something that you really didnt want and had to settle with what your budget allowed. The truck in the pics is going subaru wrx blue, full custom leather/suede interior, a 454 big block, 700r4 tranny 12 bolt 3.73 posi, all new sheetmetal,all the bolt on pieces are going to be powdercoated,got all nos parts for the truck,smoothed out firewall lowered 4 1/2 inches in the front 4 in the rear, going with 20 inch wheels?(havent decided yet on the combination). So you see a project is really not that bad, if i was to do this truck again i wouldnt but if a vette needed some paint and interior and some engine rebuild i say sure i`ll take it on, but if its a empty shell nah i`m done going this far into a project.
