Cool Thread! I purchased my 1988 vert, tripe black in 88', off the showroom floor, I've driven it across country twice, have 127K miles on her now, I'm still in love with her too! If you take care of them they seem to last.

new cars usually have about 5 miles on them.
1 mile when they get to the dealer.
and another few miles for the dealer boys to drive them around, fill up the gas tank, test drive, etc.

If you bought it with factory delivery as you can now through the museum then you would have "0" on the Odometer. I think most of us are 2nd owners but lovers anyway.

My 89 was purchased new by my father as a gift to my mom. I've had it almost 10 yrs now...
I drove the car to my sr prom when it had about 3,000 miles on it. It ended up being a goooood night

Mine didn't have quite zero but I did buy my 1993 off the show room in November of 1993. What a thrill !!
I guess you never forget driving home in your first Vette. Wow that was 15 years ago.
It has always been a weekend/nice day driver. It has mostly been garaged and when it wasn't it was covered. After many years of driving it stock, It blew a head gasket so I decided to do the LT4 top end heads/intake with the Hotcam. After a couple of years of that it spun a bearing so I went and had a 383 stroker done. It has 71K miles on it but the motor is not even a year old yet, so it has less than 4K miles.
The power it makes is awesome and makes for a quick C4. It is quicker than an '08 LS3 Vette so I'm happy with were it is today. I just need to finish my exhaust as far as the mods go.
It just needs some minor things, acrylic top is crazing, passanger door panel is a little loose, need new weather stripping, and some minor rock chips on the nose.

I have heard that many of the C4 issues popped up even when they were new or at least remember reading about it in mags as a teen, expecially the earlier C4s.
Any original owners want to comment on this?

I bought my triple black '88 vert new and it was my daily driver until about two years ago. It has 175k miles with the original engine but I had the trans rebuilt about a year and a half ago. My grandson will be ready to drive in another 10 years and the vette will be ready for him. He loves to ride in it now as long as the top is down.

Ordered mine the day after the super bowl in 1985. I'll never forget it. Picked it up May 8th, the same day I brought my wife and new son home from the hospital.
Got my wife settled and then I split for the dealer. She likes telling that story and of course my son thinks it's going to be his someday.

A member of our club has an '84 he bought new, about 53k on it, owns several other Corvettes, would sell it, but it isn't worth a whole lot. We bought the '96 a couple years ago, but the original owner had already put almost 8000 miles on it, it's up to about 12,000 now.

I bought my 89 on August 2, 1989 with 3 miles on it. It currently has 51,000 and has been sitting for about 3 years after a blown head gasket. I'm currently building a pretty healthy 383 to replace the mildly modded L98.
My car was extremely reliable until about 1994 when the first ECM crapped out. Not long after that, the centering spring for the shifter in the ZF broke and the trans hung up between 2nd and 3rd and destroyed the 3rd gear synchro. The first head gasket failure occurred in 1996. I repaired that, porting the heads and swapping intakes while I was at it, and got almost 10 years out of the repair before the second failure in December 2005.
As of now, the car is on it's 3rd starter, 4th or 5th alternator, and about the 6th ECM -- I gave up counting. I think I finally resolved that about 5 years ago after a harness fire caused me to have to rewire the entire engine harness.
The car is a lemon, but I still have it after 19 years and I'm really looking forward to having it on the road again.
